Job Description:-
The role of a System Engineer (Patching Support with Windows and Linux) is pivotal in maintaining the security and stability of an organizations IT infrastructure. This position involves managing and deploying patches across various systems to mitigate vulnerabilities and ensure optimal performance.
Responsibilities:-
Patch Management:Develop and implement patch management strategies for Windows and Linux systems ensuring timely application of updates to address security vulnerabilities and system bugs.
System Monitoring:Continuously monitor system performance and health identifying and resolving issues related to patch deployments and system stability.
Automation:Utilize automation tools such as Ansible Tower SCCM WSUS Bigfix and ConnectWise Automate to streamline patch deployment processes and reduce manual intervention.
Compliance and Reporting:Generate compliance reports to verify patch status across systems ensuring adherence to organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration:Work closely with security network and application teams to coordinate patching activities minimizing downtime and service disruptions.
Documentation:Maintain detailed records of patching activities including schedules deployment outcomes and system configurations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:-
Operating Systems:Proficient in administering Windows Server (2012/2016/2019/2022) and various Linux distributions (RHEL Ubuntu Debian).
Patch Management Tools:Experience with tools like BigfixSCCM WSUS for deploying and managing patches.
Scripting:Strong scripting skills in PowerShell Bash or Python to automate patching tasks and system configurations.
Virtualization:Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware Hyper-V and KVM including patching virtualized environments.
Security Awareness:Understanding of security principles and practices including vulnerability assessments and remediation strategies.
Communication:Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and document procedures.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years in system administration with a focus on patch management in mixed Windows and Linux environments.
