What we offer:

Salary: $44000 - $47000

Job Functions: According to the organizations mission and vision this position assists in developing and facilitating educational programming for children and families. It functions as a liaison between the residents and their preschool and student children the Pinellas County schools (HEAT program) and any other institutions of education in which these children may be attending. It works to create partnerships with other organizations churches and government institutions to create dynamic programming for children and families.


Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Meet regularly with the parents of preschool and school-age children to assess their needs.
  2. Support transitioning families to determine and assist with school needs.
  3. Coordinate all middle and high school enrollments for new families.
  4. Introduce and facilitate opportunities for parental involvement.
  5. After move-out assist with student transfers to new schools.
  6. Coordinate data collection for families with the HEAT team and Case managers: Attendance records and assessment/testing records.
  7. Assist and facilitate with developmental or education progress and staffing for children with developmental behavior or special needs.
  8. Participate in meetings with new teachers sharing education needs and strengths.
  9. Travel to Pinellas County schools and other educational settings to advocate for the students and their needs developing a collaborative working relationship with Pinellas County elementary middle and high schools and adult education providers.
  10. Understand county state and federal guidelines governing homeless education rights and special education and advocate accordingly.
  11. Develop partnerships with various organizations to provide necessary programming to build community teach various skills and increase child engagement and parental involvement.
  12. Participate in program team meetings (e.g. the Client Care Team Meeting) and advocate for the youths educational needs.
  13. Take initiative in selecting and attending appropriate workshops conferences seminars etc. to upgrade and enhance professional development skills and access services for youth.
  14. Demonstrate flexibility in the work schedule to ensure that client/program needs are being met.
  15. Participate in Metropolitan Ministries holiday efforts Bridge Builders and other fund-raising events when needed. Provide tours of the facilities and speak on behalf of Metropolitan Ministries as required.
  16. Support the team and Director in other tasks as assigned.
  17. Meet personal goals and actively contribute to the achievement of the team and organizational targets/goals as stated in the KPIs and the strategic plan. Complete other tasks as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree and/or Masters degree in education behavioral or social science or related field. Must be knowledgeable about homeless issues and/or be willing to seek continuing education related to the homeless population and/or a higher degree. Minimum of two years experience in social services or education. Direct experience working with children and parents is required. Must demonstrate a heart for serving poor and homeless families. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.


Skills Requirements:

Must work effectively with children and parents representing and communicating their status and progress to small groups and professionals within a network of the Pinellas County School District Metropolitan Ministries service providers and applicable and related social service providers in the surrounding community. This position requires the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary framework; should be computer literate with knowledge of Access Excel and Microsoft Word desirable. Must communicate effectively in English orally and in writing and demonstrate a high level of comfort in this performance through home visits meetings etc. Therefore strong interpersonal skills are required. The position also mandates a strong level of maturity sensitivity to issues of faith cultural diversity and the social skills to handle job-related matters professionally and diplomatically.


Physical Requirements:

Must have adequate hearing and speaking ability to participate and provide sound oral communication and information. Must have a valid drivers license and be able to transport self and clients when necessary. Must be capable of working outdoors in sunlight and higher temperatures for extended periods. Must have the physical emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.


Other:

Must be available to work during regular school hours. Must be available for evening meetings as needed. Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass required background pre-employment screening.
