General Description/Primary Purpose:
The Department of Thomas G. Carpenter Library is seeking a 12-month non-tenure earning Associate Dean for Administrative position will report to the Dean of the Library Jennifer Murray. Position responsibilities include high-level leadership strategic direction and operational oversight for the librarys administrative functions. Reporting directly to the Dean this role encompasses Budget Management Human Resources Access Services Marketing and Communications Assessment and Strategic Planning. The Associate Dean also assists with the planning management and improvement of library facilities. This position works collaboratively across the library with campus and community partners to ensure the effective and efficient operation of library services and resources. The Associate Dean represents the Dean at meetings and events both on and off campus prepares reports as needed assumes responsibility for the library in the Deans absence and leads other initiatives as required.
Essential Job Functions:
Budget Management - In collaboration with the Library Business Operations Manager and the Head of Resource Acquisitions & Discovery oversees the library budgeting process and its $5 million budget. Supervises the Library Business Operations Manager.
Human Resources - In collaboration with Library Administration oversees management of human resources operations within the library. Focuses on recruitment and retention strategies professional development and ensures compliance with UNF HR policies and procedures.
Access Services - Provides administrative oversight of circulation resource sharing course reserves stack management and other access services related areas. Collaborates with library and campus partners to improve the user experience and service continuity. Supervises the Access Services Manager.
Marketing & Communication - Oversee the Librarys marketing and communication efforts in collaboration with other library units.
Assessment - Oversees the assessment functions of the Library including data gathering analysis and reporting for national reporting requirements and internal monitoring of Library use and services. Also monitors adherence to university protocols on data privacy and management within the library. Supervises the Assessment Librarian.
Strategic Planning - Leads the conceptualization design implementation coordination and management of the Librarys Strategic Plan to ensure alignment with overall University goals.
Facilities Management - Participates in long-range space planning renovations and day-to-day facilities management in support of the librarys mission.
Leadership Support - Provides advice and counsel to the Dean and unit heads in all areas of responsibility.
Other Job Accountabilities:
Participates in the planning and policy-making bodies of the Library and University as appropriate.
Serves on other Library University and state-wide committees or project teams as appropriate.
Maintains current awareness of campus issues and developments in library and information sciences.
Participates in continuing education and professional development activities.
Participates in library-wide activities and/or special projects as appropriate.
Anticipated Start Date: The position is expected to begin on September 15 2025.
Working Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and can vary for special events.

Required Qualifications: ALA- Masters degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization.
Department Requirements:
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic library setting.
Experience in strategic planning budget management and assessment in a library setting.
Supervisory experience including staff development and human-resource functions.
Exceptional communication organizational and leadership skills.
Demonstration of academic rigor to support appointment at Associate Librarian or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated skill in collaborating with individuals and groups within and beyond the library across the campus and in the broader regional and library professional communities.
Familiarity with academic library trends.
Demonstrates initiative and strong project management skills in leading significant projects.

About the Department: The faculty and staff of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida started a strategic planning process just before the March 2020 shutdown of the campus. This process was completed in 2022 and resulted in creation of the following mission and vision statements and a set of 5 priorities. The first three priorities focus on our role supporting student and faculty academic success at UNF. The final two priorities are internally focused dealing with improvements to the functions and operations of the Carpenter Library itself.
Mission -Through proactive engagement in teaching & learning research & scholarship the Carpenter Library plays a key leadership role in the academic success of the UNF community.
Vision -The Carpenter Library is the collaborative hub of the university through the advancement of innovative educational scholarly and creative endeavors.
