Job Description

The Financial Analyst is responsible for maintaining financial reporting and variance analysis processes for Nelnet Bank including forecasting budgeting asset/liability management (ALM) product pricing/returns/profitability and key metric analytics. The Financial Analyst prepares monthly quarterly and ad-hoc ALM and Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) reports. The Financial Analyst assists with daily and monthly cash planning and developing and executing Nelnet Banks funding strategy.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inputs data into and utilizes the Banks ALM and budgeting systems.

  • Leverages accounting and finance software system for budgeting planning and reporting functions.

  • Assists with the financial quarterly forecast and annual budget processes. Facilitates and communicates with management regarding assumptions used in the budget/forecast processes. Maintains financial models to project future earnings of loan portfolios and analyzes them to support strategic initiatives.

  • Analyzes results and provides explanations for growth and/or decline spikes changes in trends and budget-to-actual variances.

  • Prepares monthly quarterly and ad-hoc ALM reports including stress tests analysis of Earnings at Risk and Economic Value of Equity

  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reports on key liquidity drivers and key risk indicators including internal liquidity requirements

  • Compile and summarize information for executive level reporting.

  • Develops and maintains financial metrics variance reporting and trend analysis for the segment. Creates presentations that provide insightful analysis identify required action items and assist with management decision making.

  • Assist in daily and monthly cash planning and developing and executing the funding strategy.

  • Participates in loan and deposit pricing working groups and ALCO meetings

  • Assists with the monthly accounting close processes and reconciliations of financial statement accounts.

  • Compiles analyzes monitors and reports on investment performance including but not limited to return-on-investment internal rate of return and cash flow metrics.

  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators relating to financial metrics.

  • Collaborates with data source providers and technology teams on developing and querying the Banks data warehouse including verifying extracting transforming appending and standardizing data used in financial and accounting functions.

  • Identifies and implements improvements in reporting cost analysis and processes.

  • Provides ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.

  • Complete cost benefit analyses and modeling as required.

Salary range for this role is: $65000-$75000

*This role is hybrid from our Lincoln NE or Draper UT office*

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years financial analysis experience with a proven record of success. Knowledge of financial concepts relative to profitability and financial ratios.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting theories and practices preferred

  • Demonstrates expertise in MS Excel and Power BI and is proficient in MS Word PowerPoint and Access.

  • Ensures data integrity and is comfortable working with large datasets and diving deeply in the financial data to provide additional insights. Extracting data using SQL code or other data queries.
