Make a Real Impact in Defence Research
Were looking for an Industry Research Fellow or Research Assistant to join a collaborative team working on high-impact research in defence materials and structures. This role is part of a partnership between RMIT and the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) through the Centre for Advanced Defence Structures and Materials Experimentation (CADSME).

About the Role
Youll be part of a research team focused on large-scale structural testing of aircraft components. Youll support the chief investigator in delivering high-quality reports preparing publications and helping to share the findings through conferences and journals. As your experience grows youll take on more responsibility and contribute more independently to the research program. We welcome applicants at either Level A (Research Assistant) or Level B (Research Fellow).
To be successful for the Level A Industry Research Assistant appointment you will have (but not limited to):
Evidence of research output including publications conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.
Experience and/or understanding of structures and materials testing preferably large-scale testing.
Experience and/or understanding of basic test concepts such as load cells actuators strain gauges and hydraulic systems.
Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues project team leaders and industry partners.
Ability to build effective networks and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
Demonstrated high level communication skills.
To be successful for the Level B Industry Research Fellow appointment you have (but not limited to):
Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs as evidenced by publications development of new research initiatives competitive research funding and industry links.
Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
Experience and/or understanding of structures and materials testing preferably large-scale testing.
Experience and/or understanding of basic test concepts such as load cells actuators strain gauges and hydraulic systems.
Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues project team leaders and industry partners.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates staff and industry together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Mandatory Qualifications
For the Level A Industry Research Assistant:
Qualification in the relevant discipline area preferably at postgraduate level
For the Level B Industry Research Fellow:
PhD or equivalent in relevant field
Additional Requirements
All applicants must be able to gain a baseline Defence security clearance (Australian citizens only).
Successful applicants will also be required to complete:

AGSVA security clearance
