Position Information
- Keeping Systems Running One Connection at a Time
The Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division is seeking an Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repairer in Honolulu.Under the general supervision of a Lead Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repairer and/or an Electrician-Electronic Equipment Repair Supervisor this position:- Participates in the installation maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems wiring systems equipment and appurtenances for all facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.
- Will work Monday to Friday from 6:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
- Will be assigned to service locations that will be subject to applicable state and federal laws in order to access the facilities.
- Ensures subordinates and self adhere to applicable safety practices rules and procedures and performs all duties in a safe and acceptable manner to ensure the safety of self co-workers and the general public.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Special Work Requirements:- May be called out to work while on off-duty status to respond to electrical emergencies.
- Employee shall provide valid after hours contact number.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Be able to work at various heights from an electric lift scaffolds and/or aerial trucks.
- May be exposed to some working conditions that require the use of a respirator.
- This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) and the USN Whitmore Naval Station and is subject to applicable state and federal laws in order to access the facilities.
- JTMC: Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment related to a traffic management center requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as part of the pre-employment suitability in accordance with HRS 846-2.7 (b)(37).
- USN Whitmore Naval Station: Access requires a federal background check as mandated by the U.S. Navy.

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position.
Such experience must demonstrate knowledge of: principles and theories of electricity and electronics; practices tools equipment and materials used in the electrical and electronic trades; installation maintenance and repair of electrical/electronic equipment apparatus and instruments; testing equipment and testing procedures in maintaining and repairing electronic components; hazards involved in working around energized lines and equipment; safety practices of the trades. And the ability to: read and interpret blueprints plans diagrams and schematics of electrical and electronic circuits; plan electrical wiring installations; make minor modifications to electrical and electronic circuits; install maintain test repair and troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems and equipment; estimate material requirements; work with dexterity and safety; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain good working relationships with others; handle weights and loads.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
At the time of application:- Valid Hawaii State journey-level electricians license.

Prior to appointment:- Valid drivers license (type 3/automobile).
Prior to completion of probation:- City and County of Honolulu Forklift Operators Certification Card.

EMPLOYMENT SUITABILITY:
To determine the selectees employment suitability for this position the Department of Human Resources will review criminal convictions dismissals from employment and separations from military service under other than honorable convictions.
FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT: This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) and the USN Whitmore Naval Station. Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Access to the USN Whitmore Naval Station requires a federal background check. Therefore the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
