Job Description

Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate semiskilled work involving the procurement storing and issuance of parts for the repair and servicing of automotive equipment and administrative support work acting as a dispatcher for buses and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Transportation Inventory Control Manager.

Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 5 years experience in receiving identifying stocking and ordering parts and maintaining an electronic inventory system or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reports to

Transportation Garage Manager

Essential Functions

  • Orders receives labels stocks inventories and enter parts into the business
  • Retrieve appropriate parts for school bus preventative maintenance and vehicle
  • Returns parts to vendors for warranty repair or
  • Answer telephone and radio. Respond quickly to calls for vehicle and bus mechanical problems and/or emergencies by dispatching mechanics for road repairs.
  • Generates BSIP work orders for bus defects reported on TD-28 or call-ins.
  • Fuels buses on demand at fuel island
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of the availability and procurement of automotive equipment parts and supplies.
  • Ability to work with parts and material vendors daily to order and return items as
  • Considerable knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair including parts recognition and utilization.
  • Knowledge of Business Systems Information Portal (BSIP) the online State inventory system preferred.
  • Knowledge of WhereBus or other activity bus scheduling software
  • General knowledge of telephone courtesy and
  • General knowledge of school bus transportation and school
  • Ability to give
  • Detail
  • Ability to work with multiple employees daily such as mechanics bus drivers and other school system employees concerning a wide range of tasks relating to vehicle
  • Excellent communication verbal and written skills required.
  • General knowledge of personal computers and software including word processing database spreadsheets. Knowledge of Word
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision and to show initiative and judgmen in prioritizing and organizing wok assignments to meet established
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and accurately; orally and in
  • Ability to maintain detailed
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds of material repeatedly
  • Ability to work with and around Hazardous Materials such as automotive batteries automatic transmission fluid anti-freeze etc.

Physical Requirements

  • This work requires frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires speaking or hearing using hands to finger handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms frequently requires standing walking pushing or pulling lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting climbing or balancing and stooping kneeling crouching or crawling.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data using of measuring devices operating machines operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office light traffic).

Special Requirements

Must possess or obtain a valid North Carolina Commercial Drivers License with P & S endorsements within 6 months of employment.
