The Riverside University Health System Medical Centeris recruiting foraMedical Unit Clerk.This recruitment will be used to fill a vacancy located inMoreno Valley California.


Under supervision the Medical Unit Clerk will be responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties in a medical treatment area in support ofdoctors nurses and other staff in an assigned medical treatment area. The ideal candidate will have experience with clerical work in a healthcare agency and be proficient in Microsoft Excel.


Rotating Night Schedule:This position will work 3-12 hours shifts week one and 3-12 hours shift week two plus an 8 hour shift. This will total the hours for two weeks at 80 hours (9/80).

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Transcribes physicians orders from patient chart to the proper forms in preparation for verification by professional staff; answers telephone; takes and delivers telephone messages.

Provides routine information as requested to staff patients visitors and the public; greets patients and visitors; places calls to doctors other medical units and support units as directed.

Tracks admissions discharges transfer and room changes for census purposes; completes proper forms and records for patient admissions transfers discharges examinations and testing; may assemble disassemble update and thin patient charts.

Maintains unit files; runs errands and transports supplies specimens and other materials as needed; contacts or receives calls from hospital departments hospitals doctors offices or medical agencies to coordinate or schedule services for patients.

Responds to established emergency procedures; assists in ordering stock supplies; may distribute mail packages and flowers to patients as necessary.

May make clinic appointments for patients; may prepare birth certificates and identification bands as necessary; may perform incidental typing duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One year of experience in clerical work preferably in acute care setting. Either or the following may be substituted for the required experience:

Completion of 18 semester or 24 quarter units from a recognized college in secretarial sciences office practice business educations medical assisting or a closely related field;

Completions of 360 hours of training from a recognized occupational training program in secretarial sciences business education medical assisting or a closely related field.

Knowledge of:Modern office practices and procedures including filing and operating standard office equipment.

Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written directions; perform general clerical work and learn quickly the specific operations of a medical treatment unit; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees; work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.

Other Requirements

Skill to: Type 45 net words per minute.
