REPORTING

  • Reports to his Fleet Manager and in his absence to Head of Fleet Operations.

PURPOSE

  • Ensure safe reliable and cost-effective ship management for the vessels under FMT- Fleet Operations responsibility.
  • Ensure that Fleet Operations operate fully aligned with the companys core values as well as goals commonly set by the Leadership of Fleet Management and Technology and with a foresight to prepare for the projected growth with respect to safety competence building human resources systems and procedures.
  • Act as a role model in every respect and be a mentor to the Fleet Superintendents in the fleet group ensuring their training and supervising them in respect of the daily operation of vessels.
  • Act as a support to the Fleet Manager assisting where applicable in terms of daily operation of vessels cost control and implementation of new systems and processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

VESSELS:

  • Responsible for daily ship management for vessels under Fleet Operations responsibility.
  • Ensure timely and sufficient support to vessels on all operational and technical matters at all times.
  • Keep Fleet Operations management closely advised of developments within the area of responsibility.
  • Visit vessels and prepare inspection reports on vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.
  • Ensure safety is top priority in all vessel operations.

BUDGET:

  • Responsible for preparing financial budgets for maintenance repairs stores modifications and dry dockings for vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.
  • Responsible for ensuring the control on DRC for the vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.
  • Responsible for cost control on ship management budget and for explaining to Management any significant deviations from budgets for vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.

DRY-DOCKING:

  • Responsible for planning and coordination of inspection and execution of dry-docking for vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility and as assigned.
  • Responsible for compilation of dry-dock specifications.

SAFETY POLLUTION PREVENTION & INTERNATIONAL STATUTORY COMPLIANCE:

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant international and local regulations and that all vessel certification and surveys for class flag and international requirements are maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the vessels operate with due consideration to the environment minimizing pollution and oil spills.

PERFORMANCE:

  • Responsible for follow-up on the performance of the vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility and for arranging corrective actions to be carried out when necessary.
  • Make suggestions for innovations driving cost efficiencies and improvements within the area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for implementing new initiatives and innovations as directed by the Management.
  • Responsible for preparing reports for vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility and presenting these to Management and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor the quality of all service providers and providing feedback as and when required.
  • Ensure that proper business/economic evaluations are made for a cost-effective operation.
  • Work always towards achieving targets of his individual KPIs.
  • Drive energy efficiency KPIs for vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.
  • Responsible for achieving the set targets of individual KPIs.
  • Keep Fleet Management and Technology; Network Planning - Scheduling and Deployment; and Ocean Customer Logistics (TbM) continuously updated on vessels operational and schedule status. Any casualty and/or delay should be promptly and timely reported.

PERSONNEL:

  • Ensure the efficient and effective performance of crewing function.
  • Provide input into sea staff performance development promotion disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for Masters and Chief Engineers serving onboard vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Liaise closely with the TbM as required on all aspects of the management of assigned vessels.
  • Ensure in corporation with the Fleet Manager that experience and knowledge within the fleet group are communicated and shared across the Ship Management organization and with other fleet groups in order to have best practices implemented and utilized to the benefit of Fleet Management and Technology Fleet Operations.

NEWBUILDING:

  • Responsible for the follow up on guarantee claims and settlements for vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility.
  • Review the owners supply for new buildings with Group Procurement.

REPAIRS

  • Responsible for repairs and modifications to vessels under FLEET OPERATIONS responsibility and ensuring that same are kept within allocated budgets.
  • Ensure that adequate planning and preparation is carried out for repairs.

SPARES AND STORES

  • Liaise with Procurement Category Management and Supply chain with regards to the purchase of stores and spares and at the same time ensuring that they are procured timely and at the right cost.
  • Ensure timely approval of requisition/orders as well as that invoices are paid within the areas of responsibility by the due date.

AUTHORISATION

  • Authorize payments and signs letters and obligations in accordance with specific personal authorization.

GENERAL

  • Take initiative for proper and timely action in all respects.
  • Ensure that safety is first priority in all daily operations.
  • Work to reduce all accidents and ensures that lessons are learned from all accidents and near-misses.
  • Make suggestions for improvements and savings in all matters within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that proper business/economic evaluations are made prior to taking decisions so that established budgets are not exceeded.
  • The work must be carried out in conjunction and close co-ordination with relevant departments organizations and Ship-owner entities.
  • Will continuously update this job description in conjunction with Management.
