Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Lead the universitys digital accessibility compliance efforts and provide strategic leadership and guidance around digital accessibility laws to ensure the universitys technologies platforms and digital content are accessible in conformance with the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Department Overview:

The Office of Compliance and Ethics coordinates with departments across campus to identify and fulfill legal and policy responsibilities to promote ethical and lawful conduct. To meet university goals and state and federal requirements the Office of Compliance and Ethics:

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies processes and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Review vendor and 3rd party VPATs/conformance reports and conduct manual testing of technologies during the University procurement process utilizing assistive technology software applications (e.g. JAWS ZoomText VoiceOver) to identify accessibility barriers based on applicable standards and mobile phone platform accessibility guidelines (i.e. WCAG 2.X Level AA standards).
Coordinate accessibility reviews with the Universitys Software and Accessibility Review Board (SARB) process manager.
Monitor and conduct accessibility reviews of third-party websites and other digital resources to identify accessibility barriers based on applicable standards and mobile phone platform accessibility guidelines (i.e. WCAG 2.1 Level AA).
Work with appropriate parties to remediate any accessibility issues identified during the monitoring process.
Support website administrators faculty and staff in understanding and meeting digital accessibility compliance requirements in conformance with applicable laws and policies through training and one-on-one assistance.
Maintain a close working relationship with the Executive Director of University Web Strategy to ensure University-wide reach and Office of Information Technology support related to digital accessibility compliance efforts.
Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology to audit test and establish technical specifications to bring all internally built web applications up to current accessibility standards based on applicable standards and mobile phone platform accessibility guidelines (i.e. WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards).
Lead the Universitys Digital Accessibility Committee.
Stay abreast of accessibility technology and trends.
Develop and maintain digital materials and other communication mediums including writing and developing reports and other documentation to disseminate information regarding digital accessibility standards under the ADA Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and university policies pertaining to persons with disabilities.
Support various university departments in the development and implementation of Equally Effective Alternate Access Plans.
Support the resolution of complaints concerns or feedback filed with the University regarding digital accessibility of university-owned or controlled information.
May perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of assistive technologies and best practices for utilizing such technologies.
Thorough understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and WCAG standards.
Experience with manual testing and evaluation processes to assess digital accessibility utilizing a variety of automated accessibility testing tools (e.g. JAWS NVDA WAVE Level Access Deques Axe Devtool etc.).
Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts in various settings and formats including writing and developing reports.
Solid presentation and training experience.
Experience building relationships across departments and units with varying technological needs.
Ability to work collaboratively to improve university processes related to testing assistive technologies and approval workflows.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) interpersonal and organizational skills with professional demeanor and strong personal ethics.
Excellent time management skills with ability to take ownership and complete assigned tasks.
Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate and provide solutions that result in gained efficiencies in business processes and improved customer service.

MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Management Systems or related discipline and 5 years of experience in a digital accessibility field or equivalent educational and/or professional experience.
