Job Description
As the Universitys largest and most varied academic unit the College of Arts Humanities & Social Science is comprised of artists learners performers scholars scientists and teachers and acts as a central hub where many of the Universitys disciplines intersect. The Office of the Dean for the College of Arts Humanities & Social Sciences (CAHSS) is the colleges administrative center directly responsible for guiding coordinating and applying academic financial and human resources policies for 22 departments programs schools and centers housed in CAHSS. Half of the Colleges departments and schools offer masters or PhD programs. CAHSS scholars artists instructors staff and students collaborate in a shared quest for knowledge about the human condition and the development of skills to improve our local and global communities.
Position Summary
The Anna Maglione-Sie Chair manages and furthers the vision of the Anna Maglione-Sie endowment for Italian Culture which promotes the Italian program. This position is responsible for the design and management of its programs as well as the maintenance of its fiscal health and sustainability. Specifically the chair is charged with designing and executing efforts to: 1) honor Anna Maglione-Sie and her contributions to the University Italian culture and our community; 2) attract and retain outstanding faculty members in Italian language literature and culture; 3) support research as a means of strengthening the Italian program; 4) increase the number of students attracted to and enrolling in the Italian program.
The chair is responsible for designing managing and furthering all aspects of the endowments goals. This includes faculty and student initiatives programs grants and awards as well as teaching and advising in support of the Italian program.
The chair reports to the CAHSS Senior Associate Dean and must be a permanent appointed faculty member in CAHSS at the tenured or TCP associate or full level. They work closely with other members of the Deans Office.
Essential Functions
- Develop a multi-year strategic planning document to guide the work of the Maglione-Sie chair and program.
- Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean to discuss and review Maglione-Sie chair faculty and student initiatives including programming grants and awards
- Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean and business operations team to develop manage and review annual budgets award amounts and programming expenditures
- Plan manage and attend Maglione-Sie event programming.
- Collaborate with Italian studies and other languages faculty members to support and develop the Italian program
- Visit departmental and staff offices to share updates with faculty and staff and discuss Maglione-Sie chair-related topics of interest in support of the Italian program.
- Attend Chairs & Directors meetings annually to provide updates on Maglione-Sie chair initiatives
- Work with the CAHSS Advancement team to supportively steward the Maglione-Sie gift
- Collaborate with Advancement business operations team and Deans Office to compile finalize and send annual and other reports including written status reports
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage sustainable long-term budgeting and planning.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students.
- Ability to develop and manage programming
- Interest in and willingness to collaborate with Advancement to supportively steward donors
- Demonstrated ability to integrate content and issues relating to (and work effectively with) nationally ethnically and racially diverse populations.
- Fluency in the Italian language
Required Qualifications
- Tenured or TCP associate or full professor appointment in CAHSS
- Experience with multiple departmental or College service commitments
- Experience teaching courses in the Italian program and in the common curriculum in a languages department
- Fluent in the Italian language
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience designing and executing events initiatives and partnerships
- 2 years of experience promoting enrollment in the Italian program
- 2 years of expertise and advising capacity regarding student opportunities for study abroad in Italy
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus

Salary Range:
The salary rate for this position is $10000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
