Job Summary Director Government Relations
Serve as a member of the Corewell Health government relations and public policy team under the direction of the Corewell Health Sr. Director of Government Relations. Will work with the Sr. Director and in partnership with the entire Government Relations & Public Policy team to identify areas of key policy and legislative importance at the local state and federal levels of government impacting Corewell Health and will assist the Sr. Director in developing the local state and federal relations advocacy strategy with input from key internal and external stakeholders when appropriate. Responsible for successfully executing and implementing Corewell Healths overall government relations and policy agenda at the state level and leads the execution of internal/external constituent messaging lobbying/advocacy plans and marketing/sponsorship efforts to further Corewell Healths mission vision and priorities. The Director (Provider) in coordination with the Director of Government Relations (Health Plan) will be tasked with ensuring that the interests of the System are being monitored at the local state and federal level while also understanding the unique market vulnerabilities and opportunities of the Systems hospitals ambulatory and outpatient facilities physicians and advanced practice provider groups and health plan Priority Health. This requires that the government relations team maintains strong communication lines across the organization and executes the policy recommendations and solutions developed in coordination with the public policy team. Consistent with the established Corewell Health strategic plan and the advocacy and public policy priorities of the System this individual will collaborate and actively communicate with the government relations and public policy leadership team and will work with the Sr. Director in support of the Corewell Health Leadership Team to develop and strengthen relationships with local state and federal elected officials and to advocate for Corewell Health public policy priorities. This position will require close collaboration with internal teams including Corporate Communications and Marketing Legal Compliance Community Relations Finance Quality & Risk team members and others across the System to identify opportunities and vulnerabilities and to aid in the development of public policy strategies.
Essential Functions - Director Government Relations
- Serves on the Government Relations & Public Policy leadership team and with responsibility for developing and maintaining positive relationships with elected policymakers political appointees and their respective staff. A key government relations contact for Corewell Health Leadership Teams; Corporate Communication and Marketing Legal Compliance Community Relations Finance and Health Plan leaders.
- Maintains current awareness and analyzes/compares trends positions and issues promoted by other companies trade and advocacy organizations to influence and develop system positions and advocacy priorities from the perspective of the System.
- Identify areas of key policy and legislative importance at the local state and federal levels of government; this includes tracking priority areas of interest relevant to the System and regional entities among our external governmental stakeholders and elected officials.
- Support develop and successfully execute advocacy efforts in alignment with approved public policy objectives and goals that support Corewell Healths mission and strategic plan and at the direction of the Sr. Director. Coordinate the efforts of contracted consultants/lobbyists in Lansing MI.
- Represent the System on association committees . Conduit for communication back to Sr. Director and the government relations and public policy team.
- Oversees the legislative review research and analysis of proposals that would impact any aspect of Corewell Health with consideration of overall integrated system goals
- Develops and maintains an archive of legislative and regulatory analyses policy briefs reports position statements and other materials pertinent to Corewell Healths policy and advocacy work. Support develop and direct strategies to protect and enhance state and federal funding initiatives policies appropriations and actuarial soundness in government market reimbursement rates that support the financial and operational interests the System to ensure that Corewell Health can fulfill the mission and vision of the organization.
- Directs the preparation and drafting of testimony and position statements sent to legislative and regulatory bodies and other interested parties concerning legislation policies published reports and statutes governing the System. Ensure the System complies with and adheres to state and federal lobby laws including but not limited to preparation and submission of Corewell Health lobbying reports as necessary.
