Since 1971 Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality essential and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are living with a mental illness developmental disabilities and substance use disorders.
As a Full-Time Counselor in Emergency Services at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care by performing preliminary mental status assessments and providing short-term crisis intervention services. This position involves making referrals and coordinating admissions to treatment services ensuring clients receive the necessary support promptly. You may also take on a leadership role by training and consulting with other counselors on specialized topics such as geriatrics or child and adolescent care. Responding to crisis intervention calls you will implement stabilizing interventions and assess needs for detention orders hospital admissions and releases. Additionally you will provide clinical supervision to staff seeking licensure while performing pre-screenings and preliminary assessments of client behaviors and financial capabilities.
Your expertise will help guide recommendations and referrals to care providers or case management staff fostering a collaborative and compassionate healthcare environment.
To excel as a Full-Time Counselor in Emergency Services at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board candidates must possess a Masters Degree in Social Work or Counseling complemented by a minimum of three years of experience in a psychiatric care setting focused on counseling and crisis intervention. Successful applicants will hold a valid drivers license and be licensed as a Mental Health Clinician such as an LCSW LPC or LCP and must be eligible or approved for MCO credentialing. A critical requirement is the completion of Prescreener certification modules within the first 30 days of hire ensuring compliance with necessary protocols. Strong interpersonal skills crisis management capabilities and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment are essential for delivering empathetic and effective care to clients facing challenging situations.
Additionally familiarity with various software tools for case management and reporting is crucial for maintaining accurate client records and facilitating seamless communication within the team.
