Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director the Impact Director (ID) is responsible for leading the Impact Department helping to develop and implement City Year Buffalos educational partnerships vision and measurable impact and to effectively managing the overall school relationships.

The ID will work to train implement and evaluate outcomes of the strategic education plan WSWC model Early Warning Indicator meetings collection and collation of student level data and ensure that all AmeriCorps City Year and school district site education goals are met. The ID will ensure the implementation of WSWC with fidelity to the model. In addition the ID will be responsible for strategically identifying building resourcing and cultivating key relationships to drive the success of the Impact Department.

Additionally the ID will serve on the sites Senior Leadership Team helping to drive and support site-wide initiatives and projects.

The ID will ensure the implementation of WSWC with fidelity to the model. In addition the ID will be responsible for strategically identifying building resourcing and cultivating key relationships to drive the success of the Impact Department.

Additionally the ID will serve on the sites Senior Leadership Team helping to drive and support site-wide initiatives and projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this role include Impact Department strategy school district management data access and district agreements evaluation Impact Department budget management and corps member experience.

In collaboration with the Executive Director the ID manages overall aspects of the school district partnerships. Primary responsibilities include ensuring a high level of quality detail and measurable impact with students off-track from high school graduation. The ID works with site leadership and school partners to identify and communicate City Year Buffalos long-term impact strategy to achieve long-term impact goals. This includes determining potential new schools developing education partnerships and building sustainable district relationships. The ID is responsible for routine communication with key stakeholders in the schools as well as the Impact Managers.


While day to day and school specific interactions with school partners will be owned by the Impact Managersthe Impact Director will work closely with these staff to make sure the message and implementation of service are aligned (especially the weekly/bi-weekly Early Warning Indicator meetings).

In addition the ID is responsible for managing the Impact Department budget which includes approving requests managing spending strategy and coordinating with the operations department to track spending.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

The Impact Director will play a leading role in guiding motivating and managing staff in a collaborative and community-minded environment as well as sharpening and advancing the execution of the service model under the leadership of the Executive Director. The ID will be responsible for understanding the current education environment in the City of Buffalo & City Year Buffalos partner schools.

The ID will work closely with the local City Year Partners point person(s) to make sure all goals are met and local staff members feel informed and invested in the partnership. Additionally the ID will identify and engage staff within our partner school to educate them about City Year Buffalos service and ways to support it. This will be accomplished by attending external meetings joining community groups or work groups and tracking media on education topics. The ID will communicate findings to the sites leadership team to inform on new developments that may affect our education vision and service.

SERVICE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT/CONTENT MANAGEMENT

The ID will lead the development and execution of the sites Whole School Whole Child strategy for product development and content management implementation review and evaluation. In collaboration with the Impact Team the ID will take part in school observations obtain feedback from Student Success Coaches staff members and school partners review best practices from City Year and education experts and review City Year data. In addition the ID will target areas of strength and improvement to promote to colleagues or to address through additional training and resources.

PARTICIPATION AS MEMBER OF THE CITY YEAR NATIONAL NETWORK

  • The ID is expected to be an active member of the City Year national network by participating in conference calls responding to e-mails and completing other tasks as necessary. The ID may also be asked to lead on select network initiatives.

  • Proven Relationship Management Skills the ability to strategically identify build and cultivate relationships within the school district and among any additional educational partners and stakeholders including but not limited to the Buffalo School Board Buffalo Common Council and other educational adjacent entities.

  • Outstanding planning skills the capacity to strategically imagine plan and implement initiatives.

  • Communication - Understands audience to deliver convincing and well-organized presentations; facilitates effectively to move initiatives forward; uses brand to convey mission and goals; coaches others.

  • Strategic Thinking & Planning - Experience with developing & implementing strategies objectives and action plans that help build the capacity of the site.

  • Curriculum/professional development - The ID will also work closely with the Impact Team to help develop the learning & development program for our Student Success Coaches. This program aims to provide professional development to our SSC.

Additional Experience & Qualities

  • BA/BS Masters degree in Education Social Work Urban Studies Youth Work or another related field.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background in education experience with lesson planning and teaching.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills (MSWord MS Excel PowerPoint Outlook).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • City Year / AmeriCorps experience a plus.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Possess a valid drivers license and vehicle.

  • Ability to successfully lead staff with a culture that values evaluation and data-informed instruction.

  • Salary: $63000 annually
