Responsibilities
The Charge Nurse is a registered nurse who provides leadership and direction for a specific nursing unit or shift ensuring the delivery of safe high-quality patient care. This role involves coordinating patient assignments supervising and mentoring nursing staff managing unit resources and serving as a liaison between patients families physicians and other healthcare professionals. The Charge Nurse is responsible for problem-solving conflict resolution and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures while also promoting a positive and collaborative work environment. Ultimately the Charge Nurse plays a critical role in optimizing patient outcomes and maintaining efficient unit operations.
- Mentors others in areas such as competency documentation equipment use plan of care National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) and participation in inservice education.
- Provides direct patient care as appropriate to meet the needs of the patients and department.
- Evaluates care given by staff.
- Coordinates patient flow on the unit to facilitate the provision of timely and effective care.
- Develops an effective plan of care provides appropriate care patient teaching and referral to other resources evaluates and modifies the plan of care based on patient response.
Qualifications
Minimum
- ADN Diploma or foreign equivalent
- Two years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty
- Active Arizona RN License
- American Heart Association-issued BLS
- American Heart Association-issued ACLS
- American Heart Association-issued PALS
Preferred
- BSN
- Charge Nurse experience
- Previous experience with personal computers
