Job Description:

Your new role

Here at Hitachi Rail we have a unique and exciting opportunity for Rolling Stock Systems - Operability Engineer. Working in collaboration with engineering in Japan and Italy. Hitachis Global Business Management System (GBMS) details the rolling stock requirements management and Design and Platform Development processes that are shared across the three organisations. Projects are broken down into specific work package areas. These work package areas cover (amongst others) Performance Functionality and Architecture and Systems and Components

Specifically you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Provide bid support for new rolling stock projects including requirements evaluation pre-concept design development technical document production budget forecasting etc.
  • Develop/evaluate operability concepts.
  • Design/evaluate system architectures.
  • Support the creation and development of System Requirement Documents (SRDs) for third party suppliers.
  • Be fully engaged on supplier selection monitor and review all technical documentation received against requirements.
  • Ensure systems within the design area are appropriately managed with all mechanical electrical and functional interfaces frozen at the appropriate time with the vehicle designers.
  • Review FRACAS from reference train systems to ensure projects incorporate changes identified into the project.
  • Produce/evaluate Functional Requirement Specifications including:
  • Vehicle Requirement Specifications
  • Vehicle Operating Modes
  • HV MV and LV functional requirement specifications
  • Develop Software Requirement Specifications and Test Specifications.
  • Develop/manage Interface Control Documents.
  • Develop functional performance and vehicle test specifications as necessary.
  • Produce/compile drawings schematics and models as necessary.
  • Produce design documentation to support the Safety and Approvals team to achieve all relevant approvals.
  • Produce design documentation to demonstrate compliance with the customer specification.
  • Respond to customer open items.
  • Release areas of EBOM owned by the technical area through the GPLM promotion request process
  • Operate GPLM change process where items within the technical area are subject to problem reports and change requests
  • Provide support at the build & testing phase inclusive of onsite site support if necessary.
  • Provide support to OS&M during initial warranty period.

About you

  • Previous experience in a design and/or systems engineering role is necessary.
  • Ideally have a rolling stock background.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in other global locations (Italy and Japan). High levels of cultural awareness.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Dependent on Work Package area experience in the use of the following systems will/may be required:
  • DOORs
  • GPLM Windchill
  • CAD packages
  • Matlab
  • Proprietary software/simulation tools
  • SAP

Qualifications

  • HNC/D minimum qualification
