Job Description

Position: K-4 Resource Room Teacher -Delta Center Elementary

Summary: Under the direct supervision of the School Principal and in accordance with established policies and procedures the Teacher Resource performs a variety of tasks necessary to support direct and indirect instruction for identified students.

The Resource Teacher develops and implements an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for each student. The teacher provides direct student instruction. This individual will strive to team with related service staff parents and other agencies in helping each individual student reach his or her maximum potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based assessment instruction and interventions that are matched to student needs using data-driven instructional decision-making problem solving and progress monitoring through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework to positively impact student growth and achievement.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. The classroom culture is based on Capturing Kids Hearts principles. The classroom discipline procedures reflect these principles too.
  • Develops and implements an individual education plan (IEP) for each student.
  • Ability to assist students to problem solving activities regarding behaviors and academics through knowledge of varied intervention theories and actions.
  • Use data to drive daily instructional activities to reflect individual student needs.
  • Provides direct instruction. Uses appropriate and research-based instructional practices in classroom.
  • Works cooperatively with related services staff (e.g. Speech OT PT SSW).
  • Evaluates student progress as determined by the IEPT.
  • Communicates regularly with parents and colleagues.
  • Provides educational and training information to instructional aides when necessary.
  • Participates in planned professional development activities.
  • Maintains regular communication with supervisor particularly regarding special needs of individual students.
  • Participates with peers in staff meetings student staffing and other scheduled events.
  • Maintains student attendance records.
  • Maintains records of progress toward program outcomes for each student and documents special incidents which may occur.
  • Completes regular reports on student progress.
  • Ensures that classroom equipment materials and supplies are maintained in clean safe and proper working condition.
  • Maintains regular predictable in-person attendance.

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan teacher certificate
  • Special Education Endorsement in one or more areas
  • Obtain and maintain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)-Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification (Training Provided by District)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 35 pounds such as books and teaching material.


The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
