Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The position is also responsible for the direct supervision of the dietary aides in the Bistro and Prairie Rose Inn. The Dining Services Manager will oversee Oakwood catering for the facility.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports all staff with effective organizational tools establishes dining room schedules catering schedules all catered events monitors staff compliance and supplies satellite dining rooms with appropriate products.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of dining services staff including hiring orienting training scheduling evaluating and disciplining using appropriate policies procedures and documentation to meet the goal of high resident satisfaction and budget compliance.
  • Acts as a liaison for the residents employees and guests. Reviews catering options and guides the process in planning events. Prepares menus based on request.
  • Prepares all catering sheets once menu is set. Prints and communicates the menu to the culinary team and Dining Managers.
  • Updates catering books with any changes or new events making sure all events are posted.
  • Booking rooms for special events and prepares room reservation forms to communicate to all departments of the setup requirements.
  • Creates the menu layouts for culinary events. Prints and posts menus for the events.
  • Communicates all events to the Dining Services team.
  • Bills all events same day as the event.
  • Supervises the set-up and execution of all catering events. Acts as the guest contact for each event to assure proper execution and complete guest satisfaction.
  • Provides leadership that fosters a team approach in meeting the mission of Oakwood.
  • Monitors all dining areas on a routine basis managing resident food concerns promptly and efficiently. Ensures that kitchen and dining rooms are survey-ready at all times.
  • Responsible for all safety and sanitation practices within the kitchens to include systems for accurate documentation of temperatures and cleaning schedules. Monitors food handling practices to ensure compliance with state and local regulations as well as departmental policies.
  • Coordinates dining room table decorations to include holiday and special occasion themes. Supervises the volunteer dining room decorators and corresponds with Life Enrichment staff and craft groups as needed to ensure decorating is completed in a timely manner. Monitors weekly linen orders and timely processing of invoicing. Orders table paper products to provide optimal enjoyment to residents while remaining within budget guidelines.
  • Responsible for practicing continuous quality improvement and participating in Quality Assurance projects as directed by the Dining Services Director in an effort to enhance food service.
  • Assists the Dining Services Director in the preparation of annual budgets and maintains budget compliance. Responsible for strategic planning budget decisions and policy interpretation within the department.
  • Responsible for knowledge of government regulations and to be prepared for and to assist with regulatory survey of units.
  • Participates with team members to design and implement menu systems that enhance resident satisfaction meet unit regulatory requirements and are within budget guidelines.
  • Responsible for the security of products and equipment in the food service unit.
  • Serves as a resource to resident committees with regular attendance at the Resident Food Concerns group.
  • Schedules dining services staff members to attend staff in-services to meet regulatory standards as well as grow and develop as an Oakwood team member.
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong oral written and electronic communication skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service strategies.
  • Knowledge of effective leadership techniques.
  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation and therapeutic diets menu and production driven programs and long-term kitchen maintenance.
  • Handles confidential information and adheres to all HIPAA standards.
  • Effectively plans prioritizes and organizes work.
  • Exercises independent judgment and make sound decisions.
  • Displays strong leadership in the dining services department leading day-to-day operations and long-range planning as needed.
  • Accepts a weekend and holiday work schedule and occasional overtime.
  • Carries out job responsibilities in a professional accurate and conscientious manner.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Associates degree in Food Management or Culinary Arts preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years food service experience required and/or training in a related setting with restaurant and catering experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a food service operation.
  • Food safety certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment.
