JOB SUMMARY

The bilingual Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) primary role is to support participants in accessing food and connecting individuals and families to resources in our community while learning about the challenges they face.. This role requires the ability to work closely in an intimate office setting with people in crisis. The CEC maintains professional and robust relationships with partners in the community and maintains confidentiality.



The second focus of this position is to oversee recruitment and engagement of partners at multiple Bloom Programming sites including community meals volunteer garden sessions workshops support groups and other programs as a form of mental wellness. The CEC will work with the Community Education Team to develop and facilitate a suite of non-clinical culturally relevant mental wellness engagement opportunities. The CEC reports directly to the Community Organizing Manager and will adhere to policies established by the Board of Directors as well as to the organizations goals and objectives.



THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Has 2 years of experience in social services case management or related areas.
  • Is proficient in speaking and writing Spanish and English.
  • Is able to deliver services with compassion clear boundaries and good communication skills in both languages.
  • Is outgoing and comfortable engaging with community members.
  • Works well with persons of varied sexual orientation gender identity racial ethnic cultural socioeconomic backgrounds and with individuals who are differently-abled.
  • Has personal experience with food insecurity or a commitment to social community service through previous employment and/or volunteer experience.
  • Is willing to embrace and work to improve a culture of diversity equity and inclusion which is central to our work.
  • Is knowledgeable about local social service resources.
  • Has experience in mindfulness techniques or emotional regulation and trauma-informed training.
  • Has strong verbal communication skills in person and via the telephone.
  • Is comfortable in fast-paced heightened situations that require crisis management.
  • Is self-motivated with excellent time management skills.
  • Has healthy boundaries and maintains confidentiality at all times
  • Experience with CRMs specifically Salesforce is a plus. Is proficient in basic computer skills email Google Suite.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Computer experience to track and share information using digital tools including documenting individual and community successes and challenges. Communicate regularly with HC case managers to support effective and needs-based support.
  • Support twice weekly healthy food distributions by engaging participants with materials on upcoming programs case management and social service resource navigation.
  • Support twice-weekly community meals by engaging with participants and promoting programs.
  • Support seasonal programming in garden spaces by engaging with participants promoting THC programs and conducting case management/mental wellness support in the field as needed.
  • Occasionally answer phones and provide assistance to participants donors volunteers and other staff as needed.
  • Identify and recruit participants for mental wellbeing support groups.
  • Support for community events in preparation participant education and attending as needed.
  • Collaborate with other community partners when deemed necessary (by program manager)
  • Maintain a compassionate respectful and professional demeanor in all interactions with participants.
  • Assist with problem-solving and de-escalation of situations as needed with volunteers and participants.
  • Provide a calm respectful example for all.

Training & Development: The Hunger Coalition has an internal leadership development program. We uphold a coaching culture centered on goal-setting and growing your unique leadership skills in-line with our mission. Performance management is integrated into this model and is focused on regular weekly one-on-one meetings for real-time communication regarding expectations and accountability. We have a minimal focus on bi-annual or annual evaluations. Staff have access to a $250-$500 annual professional development stipend to support development.
