Job Description

Position: Daytime Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) & Access Line Worker

Hours: 21 Hours per week. Fixed-term position until March 31 2026 with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.


Regular work hours are 9:00am 5:00pm. Days to be determined.

Some evening and weekend work may be required for SART shifts only.

Classification: Grid JJEP 13

This position requires BCGEU membership


Pay: $30.75 per hour when working on Access line or attending a phone or in-person SART and $1 dollar per hour when carrying the SART pager only

Reports to: Clinic and Access Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Access Line Worker position provides support and information to all contacts on VSAC Access Line and email supports with department statistics participates in training auxiliary staff and provides clinic coordinator backfill coverage as needed. The Worker assess contacts for VSAC services including Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) counselling programs for survivors of sexualized violence and their supporters and victim service programs. The Worker also provides referrals to other community resources where appropriate. This position includes data management statistics and file creation. The Worker is also responsible for supporting annual volunteer SART training and participating as an active member of VSAC in our review or policies and procedures.

Daytime SART position is responsible for monitoring the Sexual Assault Response Team pager and providing support information and accompaniment to the hospital police or VSAC clinic for survivors (all genders) of recent sexual assault and their supporters. This position provides phone and in-person support to recent survivors of sexual assault at the hospital or VSAC clinic or police.

Job Responsibilities:

Under direction from the Clinic and Access Coordinator this position is responsible for:

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) coverage primarily during business hours with some evening and weekend coverage as needed

    • Provide immediate support and response at the Victoria Sexual Assault Centres Clinic the Victoria General Hospital and/or a police station to recent survivors (all genders 13 years) of sexual assault
    • Provides immediate crisis response emotional support and information to contacts who have been affected by sexualized assault in the last thirty days.
    • Liaise and consult with the Vancouver Island Crisis Line Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNE) hospital staff other professionals Victim Service Workers and the police (if involved)
    • Provide information on medical options and options for reporting to the police
    • Provides specific information regarding VSAC services and follow-up information and referrals as needed.
    • Maintains availability of paperwork and resources needed for the position.
    • Updates Clinic and Access Coordinator on relevant situations involving auxiliary staff volunteers or community members
    • Provide auxiliary and volunteer SART debriefing when Clinic & Access Coordinator is not available

Access coverage during business hours


  • Provides immediate support and information to contacts on the Access Line Access email and in-person contacts who have been affected by sexualized abuse and sexualized assault

  • Updates clients about their status on waitlists

  • Provides specific information regarding VSAC services

  • Conducts initial screening assessment and triaging for people wanting to access services

  • Provides information and registers participants for services updating waitlists and database information

  • Assigns case files internally to counsellors and victim service workers based on a multitude of factors such as availability of staff and goodness of fit.
  • Makes external referrals to appropriate community resources; maintains up-to-date knowledge of these resources and may assist in updating community information as required
  • Maintains volunteer pager and paperwork including checking for completed paperwork (SART and phone contacts). Ensures drop-off and pick-up of volunteer pager
  • Coordinating with the Access and Clinic Coordinator if supplies are needed

      File Management


      • Creates and updates client records in database and creates client file documents

      • Maintains up-to-date information in contact database (all contacts to Access Line or email)

      • Updates information received from Counsellors and Victim Services in client database

      • Updates other spreadsheets as required

      • Participates in the development and revision of file management procedures and forms in collaboration with the Access and Clinic Coordinator and Direct Client Service manager

      • Provides staff information requested from database as required.

      Liaise with Internal and External Professionals


      • Informs Coordinator of Volunteers of information relevant to volunteers or about volunteers

      • Supports Coordinator of Volunteers with information and questions related to Access and SART roles

      • Updates Access & Clinic Coordinator regarding contact issues or other relevant information about the program and informs the Direct Client Services Manager as needed

      • Provides feedback to community professionals as needed or in conjunction with the Clinic & Access Coordinator or the Direct Client Services Manager

      • Liaise with community professionals regarding resources referrals and services

      • Assists with debriefing and support to volunteers as needed

      • Maintains a professional approach to liaising with other staff the public or with other significant community agencies and institutions.

      • Participates in the training and evaluation of auxiliary access line worker staff in collaboration with the Clinic and Access Coordinator

      Administrative Duties


      • Performs Access clerical duties including management of monthly statistics contact summaries and similar records

      • Monitor/ /enter data for statistical analysis at the direction of the Clinic and Access Coordinator

      • Updates service wait times

      • Prioritizes file assignment based on a variety of factors including triage wait times staff availability and initial assessments

      • Updates records in database regarding each clients service access including group attendance victim service and counseling

      • Disseminates information on Access & SART scheduling with community partners

      • Liaise with Direct Client Service staff to receive statistics in timely manner
      • Attends the Crisis Team Meeting to make internal file assignments and provide specific information about client contacts being referred into counselling and/or victim services
      • Supports Clinic Coordinator and Forensic Nurse Examiners with clinic upkeep as needed
      • Updating the online booking schedule for any advance SART or victim services bookings of the VSAC clinic
      • Provides Clinic Coordinator coverage when clinic coordinator is unavailable including basic duties such as supply maintenance monitoring the online booking schedule and coordination of clinic tours with community partners in collaboration with the Direct Client Services manager and Executive Director.


          Maintains awareness of current issues and trends in the field of sexualized violence


          • This may include an awareness of local trends or news regarding issues around sexualized violence in local community that have an impact on new and current clients

          • Maintains awareness of diversity issues in order to appropriately identify and respond to the needs of clients staff and volunteers

          • Includes awareness of cultural safety and barriers to support for marginalized folks

          - Other duties as directed by the Clinic and Access Coordinator

          - Participates constructively as a member of the staff team.

          - Ensures work reflects the mission beliefs values and goals of VSAC.

          Qualifications


          Education/Experience:

          The position requires:


          • Diploma in related human/social services field

          • Two (2) years recent related experience or

          equivalent combination of education training and experience

          Job Skills and Abilities:

          • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

          • Demonstrated organizational skills

          • Demonstrated ability to screen clients for service

          • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills

          • Willingness to work on-site at hospital or in police stations as needed

          • Basic knowledge of community resources including Ministry for Children and Family Development

          • Proficient use of word processing programs an ability to work with databases to enter and manipulate data and produce reports Experience working with spreadsheets required.
