Position Title: Permit Technician (Non-Exempt)
Department: Development Services
Reports To: Assistant Director of Development
Salary: $50000
Hours of Work: (Compressed) Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. & Friday 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
General Purpose:
Under general direction this position will serve as the first point of contact for contractors and homeowners regarding residential permitting. This position is responsible for facilitating the efficient processing of permits and licenses that include receiving reviewing and processing various permit applications ensuring compliance with local regulations and zoning ordinances.
Reporting Relationships:
General supervision provided by the Assistant Director of Development.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Policies and procedures of department; Basic principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation; Principles and practices of mail collection and distribution; Basic mathematical principles; English usage spelling grammar and punctuation; Principles and procedures of filing; Modern office procedures methods and computer equipment; utilizing standard office equipment to include: routine incoming calls taking and transmitting messages making photocopies receiving sorting and distributing mail performing data entry faxing documents and word processing.
Skills in: General office procedures and in the operation of standard office equipment including computer keyboard 10-key data entry and Microsoft Office (i.e. Word Excel Outlook); Excellent customer service; and time management.
Ability to: Apply principles of rational systems; Utilize a variety of billing data and information; Perform clerical work including maintenance of appropriate records and compiling information for reports; Work independently in absence of supervision; Respond to citizen inquiries politely; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Handle money accurately; Edit and proofread documents accurately; Exhibit regular and punctual attendance; Exercise judgment decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of general pre-defined duties which are characterized by frequent change; Perform some lifting sorting carrying of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds); Bend and reach to file.
