About this Job

This vacancy resides in the UniversitysNew Iberia Research Center.

This position is located at the New Iberia Research Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general laboratory experience; OR

Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; OR

An associate or bachelors degree in medical technology nursing clinical laboratory science or a biological physical or chemical science; OR

Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological physical chemical or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Performs veni-puncture in keeping with standard protocol on patients to obtain blood for requested analysis.

Interviews screens and performs sterile veni-puncture in keeping with standard protocol to obtain 500 ML whole blood for use in the blood bank.

Prepares laboratory specimens such as blood urine stool and sputum for diagnostic evaluation.

Prepares feces and other materials for examination for the presence of ova and parasites.

Prepares embeds cuts stains mounts labels and catalogues tissue sections.

Prepares stains cover slips and catalogues cytology specimens.

Prepares reagents soils and plant and animal tissues for analysis to identify pH lime organic matter minor elements soluble salts etc.
Operates pH meters salt bridges balances and colorimeters calibrating as necessary.
Performs microscopic examination records and reports test results.
