About Us
STEM Innovation Academy is a public charter school in Calgary that opened in September 2021. Our junior high school currently serves over 450 students in grades 7-9. In September 2022 our high school campus opened a NW location located in the University Innovation Quarter with 115 Grade 10s. In 2025 -26 we will be growing our program to a full high school with over 900 students. With a mission to inspire the next generation to be knowledgeable creators innovators and responsible leaders we believe every student can be successful in STEM and should have the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge science and technology topics .
Position Information
High School STEM Design and Engineering Teacher
We are seeking a part-time teacher (1 lesson per day) to teach either our Grade 10 Introduction to Design and Engineering course ( Sparkade ) or our Grade 11 Innovative Engineering 25 course. Course descriptions are available at
This position offers an excellent opportunity for qualified professionals interested in exploring education. All course materials are prepared and co-teaching arrangements may be available if needed.
We are looking for someone passionate about guiding students through hands-on learning experiences that follow the design process to create projects in our collaborating with our technician in the Fabrication Lab .
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with STEM Option team members and learning leaders to support Grade 10 and 11 student learning in our STEM electives program
Demonstrate high-level organization and efficient project management with flexibility to manage multiple class projects simultaneously
Employ a student-centered approach and personalize learning to meet individual student needs
Provide formative and summative assessments aligned with identified learning outcomes throughout each term
Foster positive relationships with students to create an atmosphere of trust and encouragement
Key Skills and Experience:
Understanding of the design process/cycle and its application to student learning and problem solving
Basic fabrication skills
Experience with (or willingness to learn) rapid prototyping: 3D printing and laser cutting
Proficiency in Tinker CAD Fusion 360 and/or Scratch programming software (or willingness to learn)
Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic educational environment
