What Youll Do
Responsible for managing the operations of the Environmental Compliance Real Time Radiography (RTR) units. These include and will include in the future:
1. A leased unit at 9616-7 parking lot
2. Two permanent units at Building 9212
3. A permanent unit at Building 9720-32 and
4. A permanent unit at Building 9204-02E.
Operations will include examining waste containers (drums ST-90 boxes B-25 boxes and other potential containers) utilizing an RTR unit to identify nonconforming conditions or prohibited items in accordance with the waste acceptance criteria for the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) or other applicable disposal facility.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining all procedures for RTR operations.
- Performing duties of Radiation Generating Device custodian.
- Working with Program Managers to optimize resources and efficiency of operations.
- Maintaining Software Quality Assurance documentation.
- Monitoring the performance of facility equipment and software and requesting maintenance as necessary.
- Establishing acceptance criteria (and implementing an RTR Request system) for RTR operations based on the combined needs of operations and facility management.
- Working/coordinating with other organizations to arrange container pickup.
- Working/coordinating with assigned labor personnel for moves of containers within the facility and out to LLW Storage Areas.
- Performing radiography creating reports and delivering results to waste generators (i.e. data users). Estimated throughput is currently about 4-6 boxes per day/per unit.
- Preparing reports as needed.
- Monitoring and maintaining system calibration.
- Ordering and maintaining supplies to continue normal daily operations.
- Ensuring log books and recordkeeping is complete and correct.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- OR 13 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Knowledge of nuclear and radiation principles and theory along with practical experience with Real Time Radiography instrumentation is desired for this position. Must have good organizational and analytical skills as well as excellent problem solving skills.
- Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
- Position requires entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). Candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
