URM Stores is currently looking for driven and detailed oriented Director of Safety Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) with progressive experience with a strategic data-driven approach to workplace safety environmental compliance and risk management. The role of Director of Safety EHS is centered on cultivating a culture where safety is not just a priority but a core value embedded in every level of the organization.
Develop and administer warehouse EHS programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and corporate policies and standards. Foster awareness engagement and accountability for EHS initiatives. Direct warehouse EHS activities to prevent injuries and assure good standing with regulatory requirements. This includes but is not limited to reports assessments investigations audits and program implementation.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Champion a safety-first culture across all warehouse operations.
- Design implement and continuously improve EHS programs aligned with URM policies and federal/state regulations.
- Partner with warehouse and departmental leaders to drive engagement and accountability for safety and compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments safety audits and investigations; oversee reporting and follow-up actions.
- Develop and deliver EHS training for employees contractors and visitors.
- Monitor and maintain documentation and records to ensure regulatory and internal compliance.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis; drive corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance on EHS aspects of equipment/process design.
- Manage environmental compliance hazardous materials handling and workplace ergonomics.
- Prepare and present EHS performance metrics to executive leadership and site teams.
- Plan develop deliver and coordinate effective EHS training to warehouse employees contractors and visitors as necessary to satisfy regulatory and company EHS requirements and assure proper EHS awareness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Safety Occupational Health Industrial Engineering or related field required; Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive EHS experience in a warehouse manufacturing or distribution setting.
- Strong understanding of OSHA EPA and other regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with ergonomic assessments risk mitigation strategies and cultural transformation initiatives.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills across all levels of an organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in food distribution food manufacturing or grocery environments.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification strongly preferred.
- Understanding of food safety standards such as HACCP FSMA GMPs and SQF.
- Knowledge of food handling sanitation practices and cross-contamination prevention.
- Ability to collaborate with food safety and quality assurance teams to align EHS and food safety goals.
- Experience leading or supporting food safety audits or regulatory inspections (e.g. USDA FDA).
- Familiarity with cold storage temperature control and safe warehouse practices related to perishable goods.
