The Role
Researches develops designs and tests electrical components equipment systems and networks. Designs electrical equipment facilities components products and systems for commercial industrial and domestic purposes.
This position is intended for the propulsion plant power distribution group in Department E83. The incumbent will be responsible for developing improvements and detail design requirements for aircraft carrier power distribution systems. This position regularly communicates with US Navy personnel and Engineers/Designers across Departments via email phone and in person meetings.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills with the ability to write technical documents clearly and accurately. Work in small or large groups with technical and nontechnical customers including U.S. government and Navy personnel. The position may require visits and work onboard U.S. Navy vessels.
Must Have
Bachelors Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Masters Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy power distribution systems and components to include: switchboards load centers transformers bus transfers circuit breakers controllers and cables.
- A Masters degree professional engineering license or military experience is desired but not required.
