Family (Children Law) Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive

We are helping a longstanding legal practice in South Shields find someone who genuinely enjoys the intricacies of Children Law someone who can step into an established role and make it their own.

About the Role

This is a role for a qualified family lawyer with experience of public and private children law. You will be expected to provide clear compassionate and comprehensive legal advice across a varied caseload of children matters. You will be able to guide and support our clients through PLO processes and social services meetings and handle advocacy in the Family Courts.

The firm has been serving its local community for over a century with roots going back to the late 1800s. Still proudly independent it is known for its down-to-earth approach and commitment to doing right by its clients. Family law is a key part of the practice and while they have grown and evolved with the times their values remain the same honesty clarity and client care above all else. The firm holds a Legal Aid Contract for (Civil) Family work and has held the Lexcel Quality Mark for many years. The ideal lawyer will be a member of the Law Society Children Panel or intend to work towards membership with the firms support. Full secretarial support is provided.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • 9am5pm
  • Free parking space available /Metro station nearby

Key Duties

  • Running your own caseload of family (children law) matters
  • Attending court and advocating for clients as needed
  • Managing Legal Aid files and to a lesser extent privately funded matters
  • Providing clear compassionate advice at what is often a challenging time in clients lives

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive in England & Wales
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Family (Children) law
  • Competent in handling Legal Aid work and complying with the Legal Aid Contract and Legal Aid quality compliance requirements
  • Confident advocate with experience representing clients in court
  • Organised approachable and able to work independently
  • A genuine interest in helping clients through complex personal issues
  • A commitment to confidentiality compliance and high service standards
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in using a case management system and legal IT platforms (training on the firms systems will be provided)
  • A desire to engage in ongoing learning development and contributing to a collaborative team environment
