Your role in Junos Journey:

This is a new role at Juno and is ideal for someone who is a tenured DVM with a proven track-record for medical excellence and for being a positive leader for those around them. As a veterinarian you have a passion for what you do while also being a natural leader and someone who others tend to gravitate towards. The National Medical Director is a field-based role and will act as a medical mentor as well as be a key leader across our clinics to support our Lead DVMs in ensuring they are enabled to mentor and guide their team of DVMs. You are the voice of the Juno Standard of Medical Care across clinics and you partner closely with our Clinic Operations team to ensure we can deliver on our goals while staying close to our medical teams so you can understand how Juno supports them to thrive at work.

This role is based in Toronto and the ability to work in our Clinic Support Centre (our office) a minimum of one day per week as well as visit our clinics across Canada in-person is a must. Our clinics are currently located in Toronto Burlington and Vancouver so travel will be required between practice locations in order to support and guide your team within the clinic provide hands-on support and work at least one DVM shift per week.

On a weekly basis your schedule will consist of 1-2 dedicated days visiting clinic(s) one DVM shift in clinic one remote or work from home day and one day working out of our Clinic Support Centre.

This role will report to our Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder Dr. Cassandra Vlahaki and will also be responsible for effectively collaborating with our Operations Leadership team to drive Job Love alongside the Juno Standard of Medical Care across Canada.


What Youll Do:

Collaborate with Leadership; Build & Execute

  • Responsible to ensure excellence in medical care across clinics and leading the adoption of medical protocols across each practice
  • Lead by example with your direct reports of Lead DVMs to foster growth Job Love and adherence to gold-standard medical practice
  • Develop strategies that support practice performance and growth goals while ensuring team Job Love is as high as possible and member Net Promoter Scores (NPS) are maintained at an exceptional level
  • Partner with Clinic Operations Member Experience and Product teams to support smooth and effective operations across all practices
  • Partner with the Chief Medical Officer to develop implement roll out and ensure compliance with new or updated SOPs that adhere to gold-standard medical practices
  • Collaborate with the Practice Managers and Clinic Operations leadership to ensure that medical standards continue to align with member experience standards and growth goals for all practices
  • Spend the majority of your time in the clinics maintaining a clinic hours schedule to keep a 360 view of each practice and to ensure the teams are working collaboratively and efficiently
  • Meet regularly with your team of Lead DVMs to drive performance provide feedback build solutions and identify opportunities across all clinics
  • Represent for the Medical Care team to support DVM recruitment and talent review
  • Understand Job Love across clinics and identify ways to continuously improve our teams Job Love
Lead Medical Excellence
  • Serve as a medical resource for complex or escalated care concerns
  • Collaborate with Operations & Member Experience in order to provide programming and training that help to elevate the member experience across channels
  • Enabling DVM team growth across clinics and promote career development across each Practice by creating rhythms of feedback within your team
  • Conduct consistent routine clinical reviews to facilitate coaching and feedback that enables our care teams to deliver on the Juno Standard of Medical Care
  • Develop and maintain medical SOPs that support on-going training and up-to-date changes in protocols
  • Ability to identify areas of opportunity for the Juno Care Team in order to support skill set development and in-turn supports the Practices growth
  • Work with the Lead Veterinarians to identify Medical team training needs and collaborate with Practice Managers and Clinic Operations to create a CE schedule to best serve the needs of the Medical Care team
  • Serve as a medical mentor to help train and develop practice veterinarians across medical surgical and dental disciplines with on-going in-person opportunities
  • Act as an advisor to Virtual Care working closely with Member Experience to develop on-going medical protocols
  • Collaborate with Clinic Operations & People Operations to build on-going DVM training & development

Support Recruitment & Talent Development

  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team to support engaging and interviewing talent pools for medical positions and sourcing talent for medical care team positions
  • Contribute to workforce planning and hiring strategies across clinics
  • Support the growth of the clinic teams by partnering with Lead DVMs and the People Operations team to identify strong candidates for development opportunities
  • Coordinate with Practice Managers and Lead DVMs to organize and oversee a powerful onboarding experience for Medical Team members
  • Assist with new clinic openings including supporting the staffing of new clinics on-boarding and providing on-going training support to these teams

Who You Are

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and ability to practice in Ontario Canada (non-restrictive license) and a graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary program or equivalent
  • Possess a non-restrictive License that is in good standing with no disciplinary actions or malpractice issues
  • 10 years minimum of experience in general practice medicine dentistry and surgery
  • Open and willing to travel across all clinic locations throughout each week
  • Previous leadership experience as a medical director or practice owner/leader of a general practice required with preference to those with at least 3 years in multi-clinic management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to balance medical quality strategic decisions and fiscal oversight to drive performance across veterinary clinics
  • Previous experience in developing medical SOPs and maintaining high-standards across practice(s)
  • Leader who has navigated and implemented change successfully across a large team(s)
  • Experience with start-up/growth environments considered an asset
  • A natural leader by example who possesses a strong desire to be present and hands-on in the practice environment to help lead and mentor the teams
  • Possesses a strong business acumen and a deep understanding of what levers can be pulled to support medical teams and the growth of a practice
  • A collaborative personality that can also take initiative and work independently to drive results
  • High emotional intelligence to encourage thoughtful and impactful leadership across the business and across all Practices
  • Enjoy creative problem solving analyzing problems and finding solutions. You have the ability to navigate in the gray and develop solutions with a team
  • A strong verbal and written communicator with experience delivering feedback in the moment and bringing strategic ideas to broader groups
