Job Description

Medical Equipment Technician

SpecialtyCare continues to grow and we are seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to support the Neuro Services team.This position is based in our Nashville location and will require 25%-50% travel. The ideal candidate has experience with medical equipment maintenance along with IT experience.

The technician will under minimal supervision inspect install repair calibrate maintain and perform inventory assessments and preventive maintenance of medical equipment pertinent to the specific service line while providing technical and troubleshooting support of equipment to clinical staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment devices and systems.
  • Repair install maintain calibrate and inspect complex medical equipment instrumentation and systems.
  • Ensure that all activity performed on the equipment follows the manufacturers standard and that all required documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review outcomes of preventative maintenance and make recommendations concerning improvements.
  • Recommend new equipment testing procedures.
  • Maintain timely and accurate inventory tracking both the addition and the deactivation of clinical equipment.
  • Maintain documentation of new equipment inspections and equipment repairs and failures.
  • Manage and monitor vendor repairs.
  • Maintain test equipment and tools in good operating condition.
  • Provide telephone and remote computer based technical support of equipment to clinical staff including rotating after-hours and weekend call as scheduled.
  • Work with IS associates to ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ACT (HIPPA) compliance and connectivity of systems.

Education:

  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years related experience and/or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic electronics.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows based computer systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation repair and maintenance of electronic equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of the application of computers and how they interface with medical equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking.
  • Considerable knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy physiology and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and writing marking.
  • Ability to analyze repair and test electronic mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Ability to interpret schematics wiring diagrams and illustrative parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs calibrations and tests.
  • Ability to formulate a sound decision using the available information.
  • Possessing the trait of being organized or following a systematic method of performing a task.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
  • Ability to be internally inspired to perform a task to the best of ones ability using his or her own drive or initiative.
  • Ability to calculate and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to show consideration for and maintain good relations with others.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to travel as needed and work outside of normal hours to provide support for associates as well as any equipment maintenance that can only be done during non-business hours.

  • Associates may be exposed less than one-third of his or her time to the risk of electric shock dangerous residents fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
