Primary Purpose:
The Behavior Specialist under the direction of the Special Programs Director shall provide support and training in CHAMPS PASS and other behavioral techniques for teachers staff and parents to address and manage the behavioral needs of students.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree from accredited university
- Certified in Special Education
- 3 years teaching experience minimum
- Must be knowledgeable regarding Positive Behavior Support Interventions
- Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation
- Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology
- Ability to work with students with pervasive developmental disabilities
- Ability to develop and deliver effective staff development
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- The Behavior Specialist under the direction of the Special Programs Director shall provide support and training in CHAMPS PASS and other behavioral techniques for teachers staff and parents to address and manage the behavioral needs of students
- Collaborate with administrators and teachers to design and develop research based behavioral support plans (BIP) provide support to instructional staff in implementing BIPs and classroom management strategies
- Monitor the effectiveness of behavior supports and recommend changes as needed
- Coordinate and collaborate with Diagnosticians to conduct functional behavioral assessment (FBA) based on observation of students in school home and community environments
- Work with school staff and parents in teaching socially acceptable behaviors based on individual needs
- Participate in admission review and dismissal (ARD) committee meetings as necessary
- Work collaboratively with parents teachers and other staff members to ensure success in meeting individual education plan (IEP) goals
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline including intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary
- Participate in on-going professional development by attending workshops lectures and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance
- Plans and conducts training to school staff on school laws as related to foster care federal guidelines parent involvement and homeless students population; and recommends strategies for supporting the needs of these students and families
- Work with parents teachers and counselors in improving the achievement level of students by assisting parents and volunteers in locating learning activities; disseminates information regarding parent involvement/ PreK goals and objectives books and tutorial services to reinforce skills
- Make home visits as needed and works with parents regarding ways in which they can help their children achieve challenging state standards
- Manages and provides activities related to parent involvement that would enhance the schools climate and assist the school in development and implementation of an effective parent communication network
- Work with Director of Special Services and Grants Manager on other areas of McKinney Vento Act and Every Student Succeeds Act that correlate to homeless parent involvement foster care and other related Title I duties
- Plans a budget for homeless/foster care students and parent involvement activities
- Articulate the districts mission and goals in the area of counseling to the community when appropriate and solicit its support in realizing the mission
- Conference with parents administrators and teachers concerning school and student issues
- Identify staff development needs develop and present training and coach campus personnel to continually develop and enhance behavioral assessment and intervention skills
- Provide training for parents as needed
- Pursue continuous improvement and growth in knowledge of behavior intervention strategies methodologies and analysis
- Consult with district and outside resources regarding education social medical and personal needs of students
- Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment through attendance and participation at local regional state and national conferences attendance and participation in workshops reading and professional materials
- Deliver presentations/staff development in areas you have received outside training
- Comply with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of information
- Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements
- Adhere to the districts safety policies and procedures
- Perform duties in a professional ethical and responsible manner as defined in the TEA code.
- Perform other tasks and assume such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
