Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Carpenter to join a busy Maintenance Response Team with the local council. You will play a key role in delivering responsive high-quality carpentry and general maintenance services across council-owned properties including housing public buildings and facilities.
This role supports our commitment to maintaining safe secure and well-maintained environments for residents and service users.
Areas covered are Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole.

Hours: 39 hrs per week 8am to 4:30 Monday to Thursday and 8am to 3:30 on Friday.
DBS check and Driving Licence are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out a range of carpentry tasks including door hanging frame repairs skirting boards flooring roofing fencing and window installations.
- Undertake general maintenance and minor building repairs as required.
- Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency repair requests.
- Work efficiently and safely ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and council policies.
- Accurately complete job records using digital job management systems (PDA/tablet).
- Liaise professionally with residents tenants and council staff providing excellent customer service.
- Ensure materials are used efficiently and maintain van stock.
- Participate in the out-of-hours standby rota when required.
Desirable/Preferred Requirements:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in carpentry maintenance preferably in social housing or local authority settings.
- Good understanding of building maintenance and construction health and safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a responsive team.
- Full UK driving licence (Council vehicle may be provided for work use).
- Competence with mobile job management technology (or willingness to learn).
- Multi-trade skills (e.g. basic plumbing tiling plastering).
- Asbestos awareness certification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Experience working with vulnerable residents or in public-facing environments.
