Position Summary
Reporting to the After Hours Manager the Bed Allocator will work as a collaborative team member of the bed allocation team. Under the direction of the manager will act as a liaison between admitting and receiving parties and be responsible for coordinating room utilization based on patient care requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- With direction from the manager completes bed and physician assignment system transactions in meditech as well as oculys
- Working collaboratively with the manager ensure bed matches and bed assignments are flowing efficiently and in sync with admits discharges and transfers throughout the hospital.
- Understanding of basic infection and control practices within BCHS to ensure seamless patient flow
- Regularly communicates with infection control physicians and laboratory departments to have a global picture of bed allocation availability at all times.
- Regularly communicates with navigation team to ensure repatriation process is factored into patient flow decision making
- Regularly communicates with unit clerks to understand program-based transferrable patients
Educational Requirements
- Graduate of a Medical Office Administrator program or equivalent
Mandatory Qualifications
- Previous two (2) years of bed booking experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of health care utilization processes
- Demonstrated understanding of program specific transferrable such as OR Surgical add-ons or CCU transfers out.
- Proficiency with Meditech and Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- Proficiency with ocuyls a strong asset.
- Proficiency both speed and accuracy in keyboarding and data entry
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal skills
- Ability to plan and set objectives and prioritize workload and multi-task
- Excellent critical thinking time management skills and ability to work under pressure
- Excellent attendance record
- Able to work all shifts including weekends and holidays
