Job Description

Job Title: English Language Learner (ELL) Resource Teacher - Parkview Elementary

Reports To: Building Principal and/or Director of Student Services

Job Summary:

The English Language Learner (ELL) Resource Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to English Language Learners (ELLs) across K-12 grade levels to facilitate their acquisition of English language proficiency and academic success in alignment with WIDA English Language Development Standards. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers assessing student language needs developing individualized learning plans and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations for ELL services.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct differentiated English language development (ELD) instruction to ELL students in small groups or pull-out settings focusing on listening speaking reading and writing skills guided by the WIDA ELD Standards Framework.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to co-plan co-teach and provide sheltered instruction strategies to support ELLs access to core content curriculum utilizing WIDAs Can Do Descriptors and other instructional resources.
  • Supports implementation of formal and informal language proficiency assessments (e.g. WIDA ACCESS WIDA Screener) to identify ELLs monitor their progress and determine appropriate instructional placements and services.
  • Develops and implements Individualized Language Plans (ILPs) for ELL students aligned with their WIDA language proficiency levels and academic needs.
  • Serves as a resource for general education teachers regarding best practices for teaching ELLs including scaffolding differentiation and culturally responsive instruction with a strong emphasis on WIDA instructional frameworks.
  • Assists in the identification and referral process for ELL students who may require additional support or special education services.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of ELL student progress services provided and compliance with state and federal guidelines (e.g. Title III).
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians of ELL students providing information on student progress and school programs and facilitating their involvement in their childs education.
  • Participates in professional development related to ELL instruction language acquisition and cultural competency as assigned by the district.
  • Advocates for the needs of ELL students and their families within the school community.
  • Stays current on research and best practices in English language acquisition culturally responsive pedagogy and the evolving WIDA ELD Standards and resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or District ELL Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Education; Valid New Mexico teaching license with an endorsement in TESOL Bilingual Education or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience preferably with ELL students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition theories research-based instructional strategies for ELLs and the WIDA ELD Standards Framework.
  • Proficiency in administering and interpreting language proficiency assessments.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal regulations pertaining to ELL education.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet varying language proficiency levels.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction assessment and data management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in TESOL Bilingual Education or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a K-5 setting.
  • Experience facilitating professional development for general education teachers on ELL strategies.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to build rapport and strong relationships with ELL students and their families.
  • Skill in analyzing WIDA language proficiency data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Ability to model and co-teach effective strategies for supporting ELLs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Advocacy skills for ELL student needs.
