Job Description

Position Summary

The Si Chou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies advances knowledge and practice around global security prosperity and social justice through innovative research interdisciplinary education and thoughtful engagement with others who strive for a more just prosperous and peaceful world. A Korbel faculty member serves as the Si Center director an administrative position that typically extends for a three-year term and for which the faculty member receives an annual stipend.

Essential Functions

  • Devise and execute an annual strategic plan for the Si Center in consultation with the Centers affiliated faculty and Korbel School leadership.
  • Meet quarterly (or more) with the Centers affiliated faculty and provide leadership and support for the goals and issues identified by Center affiliates. Work closely with affiliated faculty to plan design and implement collaborative research projects and other activities.
  • Meet regularly with Si Center and Korbel School staff to advise on and assist with strategies and tactics that advance the mission and vision of the Si Center.
    • Host at least one public event per academic quarter designed to educate and inform students and the broader Korbel community about issues salient to the Si Center.
    • Assist the Korbel Schools Communications team to raise the profile of the Si Center among local regional and national organizations and funders.
    • Assist the Universitys Advancement team and School leadership with fundraising as appropriate.
    • Work closely with the Si Center staff to develop and monitor expenditures incurred through research programming and other activities.
  • Represent affiliated faculty at Center and School-related meetings and events.
  • Supervise the Assistant Director of the Si Center. Delegate appraise and correct work as needed.
  • When possible engage students in the research work of the Si Center.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain appropriate time management.
  • Willingness to actively learn and follow the universitys administrative procedures policies and guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Existing affiliated faculty affiliation with the Si Center and the Josef Korbel School.
  • Extensive experience securing and managing research contracts and grants.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on theregistrars website(the law school is on a semester system and has a differentacademic calendar).

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Compensation

The compensation for this position is a $20000 annual stipend and one course release.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
