Job Description
Job Summary
Supervises and performs the installation testing and maintenance activities associated with protective relay controls and telecommunications in substations power plants and customer owned facilities.
What you will do- Oversees the duties and assignments of System Technicians and Telecommunications Technicians.
- Performs the same duties as a Journeyman System Technician or Telecommunications Technician.
- Responsible and accountable for the supervision of assigned employees insuring quality of workmanship and work is being performed productively.
- As assigned directs and coordinates materials equipment and assignment of activities for assigned personnel adjusting schedules as needed.
- Provide leadership and direct employees in safe and efficient work practices.
- Responsible for ensuring personnel understand and comply with all established procedures including but not limited to applicable safety rules and practices. Point out and correct at risk behavior.
- Performs all duties within established safety practices.
- Performs maintenance in a proactive manner as to isolate potential failures or problems.
- Trains evaluates and/or directs the work of assigned journey level employees apprentices semi-skilled and/or occasional temporary helpers.
- Trains fellow employees in related activities.
- Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.
- Assists other journey level employees as necessary.
- Lead and/or assist in training others in the safe work practices.
- Prepares and maintains records of equipment tests and maintenance keeps operating records and performs other administrative work as required.
- Oversees and installs tests commissions and maintains like types of customer equipment on non-commodity projects.
- Prepares purchase orders and verifies that material for projects is ordered and received.
- Ability to read interpret and demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge of blueprints maintenance manuals technical manuals electrical and electronic circuits and electrical equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend Right-To-Know information.
- Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
- Must be willing to work long overtime hours to maintain continuity of service as emergencies may require.
- Attention and aptitude for detail.
- Ability to work alone in unsupervised situations.
- Demonstrated mechanical and analytical ability.
- Ability to perform required tasks using a computer and/or other electronic equipment.
- May perform other lower level duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties which are similar related or incidental to this position and assist in other activities that do not require skills of a higher classification.

Education Requirements- High School diploma or GED equivalent
Required Experience- 2 years formal education in electrical and electronic theory and fundamentals equivalent to completion of CIE Course 1B
Other Requirements- Must obtain and maintain a valid drivers license of appropriate grade within probationary period.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities- Demonstrated ability to use a computer and associated Windows software (e.g. Excel Access and Word software)
- Demonstrated Ability to direct and work effectively in a culturally diverse works group.
