HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JOB DESCRIPTION
10.5 Month Position
Position Title: High School Assistant Principal
Department: Administration
Location: High School
Reports to: Principal
FLSA Class: Exempt
SUMMARY
Responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the administration of the total school program.
DUTIES Other Duties may be assigned
- Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance.
- Assists with staff evaluation.
- Manages building staff including class schedules and building problems.
- Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers.
- Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff (see requirements for evaluation of probationary and tenured teachers). Coordinates in-service training for staff and attends training with staff and leads professional development for staff.
- Inspects and observes activities on District property and during school activities as possible for correct safety procedures and to correct any unsafe practices and conditions immediately if injury may be imminent and to report all other potential safety hazards to their supervisors.
- Requires all building staff to observe District school property and District school activities for correct safety procedures and to require correction of any unsafe conditions and practices immediately if injury is imminent and to report all other potential hazards to supervisors.
- Works with Teachers and other support personnel to develop and maintain a program of safe conditions and procedures to provide for the welfare of the students faculty and support personnel and to avoid costly litigation which may result from unsafe conditions and practices.
- Assists scheduling of special events during the school day.
- Provides general supervision to students. Supervises extra-curricular activities.
- Maintains relationships with parents and community.
- Attend District Board meetings and School/District Activities.
- Required to meet with students to establish a rapport review school expectations and to recognize students on positive accomplishments
- Required to direct and lead collaborative meetings where students instructional or behavioral progress is being discussed.
- Communicates with parents the progress that students and the overall school is making in the areas of academics and other activities required for school success.
- Communicates with Superintendent regularly on school progress issues and concerns involving students employees and parents that may impact the school operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a M.S. in school administration with a valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Educator License with the General Administrative Endorsement.
- 2 4 yrs. previous experience in an educational setting preferably in a teaching role. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word Excel Access PowerPoint etc.
- Establishes and maintains effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students staff and parents).
- Possesses the ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Possesses the ability to communicate to and maintain relationships with volunteers community members and outside agencies in an acceptable/courteous manner.
