POSITION OVERVIEW
The Music/Band Educator is responsible for developing and leading a dynamic and inclusive music program that inspires student engagement musical excellence and personal growth. This position encompasses the instruction of Band Percussion Jazz Band Keyboard Theory and small ensembles while also fostering leadership opportunities and a passion for music. The educator will plan and prepare students for concerts festivals and state-level competitions maintain effective communication with stakeholders and collaborate with faculty feeder schools and booster organizations.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong musicianship organizational skills and a commitment to student success within a positive and structured learning environment. Additionally they will uphold district values and policies actively contribute to curriculum development and participate in professional growth activities. This role requires a proactive collaborative and student-centered professional who is dedicated to creating a vibrant music culture within the school and broader community.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Washington State Teacher certification.
- Major in music education or K-12 music endorsement.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district may find appropriate and acceptable.
DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES
- To communicate effectively with students parents community and staff.
- Woodwind Jazz or Percussion background preferred.
- To work effectively with children of varying academic emotional social and physical needs.
- To work primarily with children in the secondary grades 9-12.
- Knowledge of high school band literature and repertoire.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Program Development and Instruction
- Design implement and maintain a comprehensive music program including Band Percussion Jazz Band Keyboard Theory and small ensembles.
- Plan and prepare students for successful participation in school concerts festivals community functions and WMEA/NCWMEA Large Group Region and State Solo & Ensemble Contests.
- Work with individual students or small ensembles to enhance musical skills and instrumental/string techniques.
- Incorporate opportunities for student leadership development within the music program.
- Actively participate in the development and continuous improvement of the music curriculum in alignment with the Commission on Learning and District Strategic Plan.
Collaboration and Communication
- Establish and maintain professional positive working relationships with feeder middle school administration and staff.
- Collaborate with school faculty to coordinate student performance opportunities.
- Communicate regularly and proactively with students parents faculty and the community regarding student progress program expectations and related activities.
- Actively coordinate with and support the efforts of the band booster organization.
Program Management
- Maintain accurate records of attendance instrument and equipment inventory music library and uniforms.
- Develop and implement a planned maintenance and cleaning schedule for equipment and uniforms.
- Ensure compliance with all school and district procedures policies and applicable laws including IDEA Section 504 and ADA
Professional Expectations
- Attend all relevant NCWMEA/WMEA meetings clinics and concerts.
- Participate actively in professional development activities and organizations that support and promote music education.

- Maintain a positive attitude and productive learning environment for all students.
- Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students staff and parents.
- Be responsible for music production and tech support as needed.
- Ensure daily attendance and punctuality as these are essential functions of the position.
- Support shared decision-making processes within the school and department.
- Other duties as assigned.
