The Field Museum is hiring a 36-month postdoctoral researcher to conduct herpetological research with a focus on systematics and collections-based work under the supervision of the Associate Curator of Herpetology and Director of Core Labs. Approximately 80% of this position will be dedicated to pursuing independent research interests (on any taxonomic group of choice) and conducting empirical scientific investigations that incorporate the Museums collections. Depending on the specific projects pursued the researcher may need to secure external funding (e.g. through grant writing and similar efforts).

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to lead research projects and publicationscollaborating with the supervisor and/or other colleagues as appropriateand contribute to additional research areas of interest. This work may involve species descriptions genetic and phylogenetic analyses morphological data studies (including XCT scans as needed) and the preparation and submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.

The remaining 20% of the position involves participating in Museum outreach and related activities tied to the researchers expertise in herpetology or as requested by the supervisor. The researcher will also have opportunities to contribute to the supervisors ongoing projects and be a co-author on resulting publications. Additional responsibilities may include presenting research at scientific conferences mentoring students and interns and assisting with general tasks within the herpetology lab as appropriate for the role.

Minimum Education: A PhD is required by the start date.

Minimum Experience: Applicants must demonstrate expertise in herpetological research and systematic studies (please explain in your cover letter) supported by at least five publications in these or closely related areas.

Pay Range: $48000/ Annually
