Job Description

Reports To: Prin. or I/Ofor Deaf Ed Vision Services and AT
Duty Days: 187 Days
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: IS04

Qualifications:

Associates degree related to interpreting or in the field of Deafness preferred

Passed the BEI Test of English Proficiency preferred

Ability to establish and maintain conversations using Sign Language

Ability to maintain effective working relationships

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to work with children with disabilities

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Minimum clerical skills

Paraprofessional aide certificate required once employed

Knowledge of students with sensory impairments

Willingness to participate in ongoing training in the area of visual/auditory impairments

Willingness to assist with toileting feeding and other self-help skills

MUST RECEIVE FULL BEI CERTIFICATION AFTER TWO YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT

Primary Purpose:

Provide assistance for an auditory impaired student and other students with sensory impairments as needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to federal state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
  2. Participate in planned in services and professional growth activities.
  3. Assist in carrying out the instructional program for assigned students.
  4. Assist in maintaining student records and audit folders.
  5. Assist in preparation use and maintenance of instructional materials equipment and technology.
  6. Assist with teacher-planned activities exercises and drills.
  7. Attend professional meetings as required.
  8. Become proficient in students individual communication methods and strategies.
  9. Maintain communication between home and school and keep a daily log of information about the students activities as needed.
  10. Serve as a resource to other staff on issues related to auditory/visual impairments.
  11. Interact in a professional manner with administrators teachers staff students visitors or other individuals and participate as an effective team member.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher principal or Instructional Officer for Deaf Education Vision Service and AT or as determined by specific area of assignment.
  13. Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  14. Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer copier typewriter audiovisual equipment CCCT and other assistive devices.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing stooping kneeling pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
