System Development Engineer II, Cross Border Selection Technology

Are you interested in building next generation services that will re-define international trade at Amazon Do you want to improve how shoppers around the world discover and purchase global merchandise Amazon Exports and Expansion is building new services responsible for enhancing the international shopping experience. Global Store (GS) and Core Exports (CE) together enable cross-border (XB) shopping for Amazon customers worldwide. CE serves cross-border customers in 200 destinations and shopping on 11 Exports-enabled stores by providing access to 177M products at competitive prices with a localized shopping experience and a reliable and accurate delivery experience. GS complements the local flywheel in 14 countries across 59 source-destination pairs (arcs) creating an integrated experience enabling customers to shop Amazons international selection on their local Amazon or 3P website. GS abstracts XB fulfillment processes to make it seamless for customers to shop for Amazons international selection while rendering a fully localized experience with access to competitive pricing in local currency cross border DEX C-returns exclusive deals and promotions local payment methods and local customer service.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for working on behalf of the customers and can operate independently autonomously and able to manage ambiguity. In addition to the technical skills maturity judgment communication skills negotiation skills and influencing skills are all essential as you interact with cross functional teams worldwide. A successful team member will be skilled at anticipating bottlenecks balancing business needs with technical constraints and taking calculated risks to maximize value. Your solutions are pragmatic efficient and cost-effective. You make appropriate trade-offs and re-use or extend prior work where possible. You thoroughly test your work. You consistently write clear accurate and concise documentation and improve your teams existing documentation.

As a Systems Development Engineer you will build technology solutions to solve business and customer problems applying appropriate technologies and best practices. Your solutions are testable maintainable and efficient. You understand the system architecture and you make appropriate design technical trade-off decisions. Through automation/technical innovation you impact positively the performance scalability reliability or availability of a product/system/service. You work to resolve the root cause of complex problems leveraging your cross-domain understanding of the technology involved in your systems. You automate and simplify development test and operational processes.

A day in the life
A day in the life as a Systems Development Engineer on our team involves architecting and implementing complex distributed systems that power Amazons global trade infrastructure. Youll design and develop scalable AWS-native solutions that manage critical compliance workflows automate regulatory checks and enable seamless cross-border commerce.

In this role youll tackle challenging technical problems around system integration data processing and service architecture while ensuring our platforms meet international trade regulations and product compliance requirements. Youll collaborate with multiple teams to build robust backend services implement efficient data pipelines and create automated validation systems that process millions of transactions across Amazons worldwide network.

The ideal candidate will excel at designing highly available fault-tolerant systems have deep expertise in cloud architecture and distributed computing and demonstrate strong operational excellence. Youll need to balance technical depth with business acumen as youll be developing solutions that directly impact Amazons ability to scale its global selection while maintaining regulatory compliance. - Experience in automating deploying and supporting large-scale infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python Ruby Golang Java C C# Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking storage operating systems)
