In Asset Management and Maintenance we play a key role in ensuring the safe reliable and cost-effective service of our transit system as the Metrolinx engineering technical authority and owner of more than $20 Billion in assets and growing to $60 Billion by 2030.
Our Signals Division is looking for a Director Signals and Communications Projects to join the team! This role is accountable for strategic planning delivery and implementation of Signalling State of Good Repair and Level Crossing projects. Reporting to Vice President Signals and Communications you will lead a team of professional Signal & Communication engineers and project managers to deliver projects and address improvements of existing asset performance through various initiatives.
What will I be doing
Directs strategic and tactical direction to multidisciplinary engineering and project management professionals within the Signaling discipline and outsourced contract teams to deliver the portfolio of Signals & Communications State of Good Repair and Level Crossing projects
Lead the strategic project planning design staging and tendering; direct the creation of a phasing plan to identify optimal sequencing of construction
Direct and coordinate the delivery of Signal & Communication projects encompassing construction commissioning and deployment into operational service in accordance with corporate project management standards procedures controls and environmental requirements to minimize the impact on service and to maintain a high level of customer service
Manages complex Signals and Communications programmatic and technical issues and risks facilitates effective conflict resolution and communicates with intra agency divisions regulators contracted partners and other external stakeholders.
Directs the application of Lean improvement initiatives in accordance with corporate standards for the betterment of projects and processes.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
University Degree in Engineering and/or rail sector and related industry experience or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent
Demonstrated experience in Signals & Communications project management.
. or C.E.T accreditation Project Management Certification or Lean Certification is considered an asset
Experience leading engineering and project teams delivering complex signaling or infrastructure projects
Experience with project management principles and best practices including budget and schedule controls reporting and risk management to be able to lead and direct professional staff as well as cross functional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects
Vendor management expertise to be able to manage development and delivery of externally provided products and services (e.g. negotiate contracts interpret compile and administer contracts and memoranda of understanding)
Proficient in transformational change management risk management and assessment initiatives to reflect on lessons learned to analyze evaluate and define problems/challenges identify alternatives and make timely decisions to manage risk and address issues
Exposure to systems engineering process for all Signals & Communications assets including system integration requirements management configuration management integrated design logistics management and interface management
