Job Description
MAIN FUNCTION: | The Assistant Group Supervisor must assist the Group Supervisor or Program Leader in all aspects of his/her classroom functioning (planning program etc.) and in the absence of the Group Supervisor must assume the leadership of the classrooms teaching team and subsequently become accountable for all aspects of the total room functioning. The Assistant Group Supervisor is responsible for the safety of the children in his/her care. |
RESPONSIBLE TO: Group Supervisor or Program Leader and Program Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assumes the leadership of the teaching team in the absence of the Group Supervisor.
- Assist the Group Supervisor in all aspects of program planning.
- Participates in all phases of the daily program.
- Participates as a responsible member of the teaching team in all aspects of involvement regarding classroom and Center operations.
- Helps prepare materials which are needed for the daily program. Uses the childrens rest time as staff work time to assist with mending of books and toys record keeping and preparing of materials.
- Helps carry out plans to create as harmonious an atmosphere as possible.
- Participates in weekly staff meetings and communicates needs and ideas to appropriate resource person(s) with the knowledge of the Group Supervisor.
- Participates in the Program with the knowledge of the Group Supervisor fully and cooperatively.
- Helps maintain re-evaluate and update each childs developmental evaluation form with the knowledge of the Group Supervisor.
- Helps the Group Supervisor keep adequate records of each childs needs and progress.
- Participates in relevant training sessions.
- Interacts with parents with the knowledge of the Group Supervisor to help provide a trusting atmosphere between parents and Center Staff.
- Attends parent meetings with the knowledge of the Group Supervisor and /or in his/her stead to help enhance an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding between parents and Center staff.
- Promote Early Learning Connections in the community by commonly sharing the responsibility of active recruitment of children.
- Support the program-wide adoption of the teaching pyramid model to promote the development of young childrens social-emotional competence and address challenging behavior.
- Create and maintain a positive organizational culture by demonstrating the program-wide behavioral expectations in their social interactions with children families community members and colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred:
A high school diploma with an Infant/Toddler CDA and 15 hours credit in early childhood education child development special education elementary education or the human services field from an accredited college or university; and one year of work experience related to the care and development of young children.
Minimum Required:
A high school diploma with CDA and 2 years work experience with young children.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom on the playground and on field trips.
- Must be able to communicate with parents and young children.
- Must be able to climb stoop crawl kneel and bend to speak to children at the childs eye level play with children and pick up toys and equipment from the floor.
- Must be able to lift young children and move child-size furniture.
