Overview: The Access and Disability Resource Center values diversity and equity. Location: Des Plaines
Date Range: August 18- December 10 2025
Days and times: Wednesdays at 12:30 pm- 3:15 pm
Tasks Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work exclusively with 1 student with the approved accommodation Assistant in Laboratory Setting (EI)
- Give verbal descriptions of demonstrations and visual aids if not provided in class. (CM)
- Perform the functions of the lab that the student is not able to due to their disability. Follow instructions given by the student with the accommodation on functions such as handling equipment materials making visual observations viewing measurements etc. (PF CM)
- Maintain appropriate boundaries to uphold academic integrity; the student with the accommodation is responsible for understanding all functions that need to take place for the lab. (PF CT)
- Maintain confidentiality. (PF EI)
- Communicate with ADRC staff regarding any challenges or issues that arise during each assignment and consult with instructor and ADRC staff in finding resolutions. (CM CT TW)
- Follow guidelines for outdoor safety be properly dressed for comfort and safety: pants sturdy shoes or boots hat field notebook; insect spray and sunscreen and other personnel needs. (PF)
- Attend all required and additional training required by the Career and Transfer Center Biology department and Access and Disability Resource Center. (CD TW PF)
Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Other Abilities):
- Must be enrolled at Oakton College in at least six credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters. Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer or students continuing registration into the following fall semester.
- Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.
-Able to stand walk and sit extended periods of time in a variety of natural settings- depending on the nature of the field activity.--
-Ability to move around Oaktons outside natural environments.
-Demonstrated reliability punctuality and responsibility.
-Equity-mindedness courtesy and good listening skills are a must.
-Ability to be present at all assigned lab dates/times at Des Plaines campuses.
-Some flexibility outside of assigned hours may be needed: meetings outside of lab hours with the assigned student along with the professor may be necessary and approved by ADRC; time and day to be determined.-
- Prior BIO 106 lab experience preferred.
