The CNC Machine Operator operates the CNC machine center and other machining centers; maintains all machine tools and fixtures to ensure machining capabilities are not compromised.
Responsibilities
Level 5:
- Comprehend verbal and written instructions.
- Utilize general math skills including common fractions decimals and compute rate ratio and percent.
- Read and comprehend simple CNC programs.
- Read and comprehend blueprints and other drawings.
- Use precision measuring equipment to confirm parts to specification.
- Adhere to Liebherr Employee Rules and Regulations company safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and work order packages.
- Undergo detailed training on the larger milling machines.
- Familiarity with machine tooling and uses.
Level 4:
- Read CNC programs and navigate the controller with supervision.
- Fill out dimensional reports with supervision.
- Utilize overhead crane per Liebherrs safety program and loading of large components with supervision.
- Control rotatory table with supervision.
- Use CNC accessories including setting up tooling using the pre-setter with supervision.
- Read and edit G-codes and M-codes with limited supervision.
- Adhere to Liebherrs ISO and 5S principles.
Level 3:
- Read CNC programs and navigate the controller with limited supervision.
- Control rotatory table without supervision.
- Set up tooling using the pre-setter without supervision.
- Fill out dimensional reports without supervision.
- Edit G-codes and M-codes without supervision.
- Set up and run machines with limited supervision.
Level 2:
- Read and edit CNC programs and navigate the controller including all accessory heads without supervision.
- Performs machine setups and problem solving without supervision.
- Make machine related decisions independently.
- Identify and resolve part and or machining issues without supervision.
Level 1 (senior):
- Perform daily machine tasks without supervision.
- Positively influence people lead a group to achieve a task at hand and follow up to ensure that production goals are met.
- Offer direction and technical instruction when needed.
- Write and edit CNC programs in order to improve the performance of the machining process.
- Maintain all machine tools and fixtures to ensure machining capabilities are not compromised.
Competencies
Education and Experience:
- Level 5: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Have some knowledge of machining principles.
- Level 4: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Have 2 to 3 years of related CNC machining experience and or training.
- Level 3: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Have 4 to 5 years of related CNC machining experience and or training. Have some experience in program writing reading and editing. Have knowledge in operating large milling machines.
- Level 2: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Have 6 to 7 years of related CNC machining experience and or training. Possess strong understanding of program reading editing with some writing capability.
- Level 1 (Senior): High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Have 8 to 10 years of related CNC machining experience and or training. Comfortable with writing programs editing programs. Strong knowledge with operating large milling machines and capable of training other members.
Level 5:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
- Follows instructions responds to management direction.
- Ability to read and interpret Liebherr Employee Rules and Regulations company safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and work order packages.
- Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading and understanding.
- Overhead Crane Qualified per Liebherrs safety program.
- Demonstrated ability to use and read measuring devices (i.e. tape calipers and micrometers).
- Ability to complete ODC in the required intervals.
- Must be able to complete all TELL online training classes.
- Follow safety guidelines including wearing proper PPE.
- Communicates effectively between peers and management to ensure timely completion of products.
- Ability to measure parts per drawing specs and react accordingly.
Level 4:
- Meets all requirements of level 5.
- Demonstrates the ability to set up and run Haas mill and or Haas Lathe.
- Understands how to cycle through CNC programs to run the appropriate program per part without supervision.
- Able to complete MIR documentation understanding spec requirements.
- Understand and adhere to 5S principles and maintain cleanliness in work area.
- Be able to pre-set change tools for Haas mill and or Lathe.
- Follow instructions and respond to management direction.
- Ability to recognize malfunctions that require assistance.
Level 3:
- Meet all requirements of level 4.
- Demonstrate the ability to set up and run the Pama or Colgar.
- Demonstrate the ability to load and unload axle box and mainframe from machine fixture.
- Be able to maintain machining area cleanliness disposing of chips and operating chip conveyor.
- Be able to pre-set own tools and change tools for large milling machines.
- Be able to edit programs based on need.
- Understand basic G and M codes.
- Be able to identify proper tools needed for the program and use accordingly.
Level 2:
- Meet all requirements of level 3
- Be able to probe out axle box and mainframe and make offset adjustments as needed.
- Demonstrate ability to identify troubleshoot and resolve issues within the cutting process.
- Be able to train new machine operators.
- Must be able to perform daily machine tasks without supervision.
Level 1 (Senior):
- Meets all requirements of level 2.
- Must be able to positively influence others lead a group to achieve a task at hand and follow up to ensure that production goals are met.
- Must be able to offer direction and technical information when needed.
- Be able to write complex programs.
Additional Requirements:
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 5% of the time.
- Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
