The ICI Radio-Canada Colombie-Britannique team is seeking an experienced self-motivated French-speaking cross-platform videojournalist to be based at the CBC/Radio-Canada station in Kelowna B.C.
Your role will be to cover news and current affairs affecting the Okanagan region and its one million residents reporting out of the main city of Kelowna. You will tell a wide range of stories touching on the environment the economy politics social issues and the French-speaking community working with the editorial team in Vancouver.
You will be expected to travel and file for all editorial platforms (digital radio TV and social). You will do taped and live reporting for all platforms with a focus on digital content online articles and radio segments. You will pitch research write and present news stories for our newscasts web pages and social media accounts as well as Radio-Canadas interregional and national programming.
The successful candidate will be an idea generator who thrives on daily and breaking news as well as covering original or developing stories.
Key tasks:
Develop and maintain a network of contacts.
Pitch and develop story ideas.
Gather and research information on regional issues and events.
Arrange and conduct interviews.
Shoot edit write and present reports for all our platforms.
Deliver live hits during programs or newscasts.
Attend daily assignment meetings.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three (3) years practical relevant experience in the field
Excellent writing storytelling and interviewing skills on both digital and broadcast media
Ease with live reporting
Solid command of French (oral and written comprehension and communication) and strong proficiency in English (oral comprehension and communication)
Familiarity with issues affecting British Columbia local communities and the French-speaking minority
Strong editorial judgment and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices
Ability to work flexible hours and on weekends
Ability to be a strong self-starter but also have a proven track record of working collaboratively with a variety of teams
Ability to plan organize and co-ordinate your day-to-day work so as to meet tight deadlines
Ability to manage stress
Experience working on multiple stories simultaneously
Proficiency with photography video and editing tools and ability to use lighting kits
Valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company
Familiarity with in-house production tools is an asset (Dalet MediaCentral iNews Scoop Hindenburg Adobe Premiere Avid)
