Job Summary
This position is responsible for all financial grant reports & budgets assisting auditors various state and federal reports and some administrative accounting responsibilities.
Essential Functions
Accounts for federal state local and private grants Reviews and approves expenditures on grant accounts for program compliance Prepares timely financial reports for grantor agencies Reviews reconciles and monitors grant accounts Serves as the financial liaison to grant directors federal and state program officers and external auditors on assigned programs Reconciles general ledger accounts to corresponding grant reports Prepare monthly billings for certain grants Prepares draw requests for grant reimbursements Assist campus personnel with departmental budgets Analyzes records and postings and prepares journal entries and budget adjustments as required Prepares year-end state reports of a financial nature Prepares closing entries on selected accounts Prepares schedules for external auditors Assist the Director of Accounting with matters of a financial nature Assist with the preparation of the year-end audited financial statement Backup for compiling and reviewing computer-generated data to produce 1099s Backup for preparing the 1042-S Non-US Citizen with US Income Subject to withholding Backup for printing checks for Accounts Payable Student Refunds and the Midland College Foundation Backup for daily cash reporting Backup for general ledger and budget authorization maintenance Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Some travel for training may be required Work location will be an office located within the accounting and purchasing offices and occasionally in the warehouse in preparation for auctions
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or similar degree with at least six hours in accounting. Alternatively 30 hours of college credit with at least three hours in accounting and a minimum of two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping Personal computer 10-key and scanning equipment knowledge Demonstrate mainframe/microcomputer computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing applications Ability to handle multiple tasks; excellent data entry and communication skills and the ability to work with college personnel concerning accounting issues Detail-oriented and self-motivated Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of accounting or bookkeeping data entry and general ledger account reconciliations experience Fifteen semester credit hours in accounting Grant governmental or public accounting experience
