Located 20km west of Sydney on Dharug country with a population of 240000 residents Cumberland City Council is the fourth most populous Local Government Area in Greater Sydney. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Development Compliance Officer assists the Coordinator Development Compliance and other members of the Council to ensure that the organisation meets all of its Management Plan requirements in a timely and effective manner and to ensure efficient implementation of the land use policy and legislative compliance.
You will utilise legislative tools and mechanisms to achieve compliance with Council and community expectations. This role is responsible for investigating and proactively monitoring unauthorised uses unlawful building work and development consent compliance including complex and protracted matters.
The successful applicant will require:
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in building building science building surveying engineering planning architecture construction management or job related experience in Local Government
- Current Class C drivers licence
- Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Current First Aid certificate
- Comprehensive operational knowledge of legislation (Acts Regulations and supporting guidelines/standards/codes) including but not limited to
- Local Government Act 1993
- Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979
- Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
- Building Code of Australia.
- Comprehensive operational experience in the management of investigations and enforcement action for a diverse range of areas including but not limited to:
- Planning Approvals and Consents
- Building Control provisions
- other breaches of Legislation under Local Government control.
- Comprehensive experience in preparing affidavits/statements complying with statutory rules that govern the collection interpretation and presentation of evidence to and in a court of relevant jurisdiction
- Broad experience in preparing letters memos reports and presentations on issues relevant to development compliance matters to a wide audience including Management team Coordinator and customers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

About this role:
- Permanent full-time position
- 70 hour fortnight
- Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement
- Located at Councils Auburn office with frequent travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 12 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1844.36 to $2121.02 per week plus 11.5% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role
