Wilmington Middle School is seeking a dynamic Special Educator to join our community as a Special Education Reading teacher. It is imperative that the candidate demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the middle school team philosophy as well as the middle school child. This position has a designated caseload of students on IEPs and the candidate will service students with a variety of needs/abilities that can include but not limited to specific and intense remediation due to significant language-based disabilities. The teacher will also be responsible for inclusion support supporting students in an educational learning center that are focused on individual students special education goals evaluating students for eligibility/re-eligibility for special education services generating reports/reporting out on evaluations and chairing/participating in meetings. The special education teacher will be providing direct instruction as well as being a liaison to classes that their students are attending and share responsibility for planning/co-planning of direct instruction for their students. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates a strong knowledge of program design curriculum and instruction and behavior managementPlan effective instructional strategies for adapting or modifying the general curriculum to meet the various needs of individual students Develops curriculum suitable for the Language-Based Students and will differentiate instruction accordingly to the students needsParticipate in the development of and oversee implementation of IEPS for students eligible for special educationConduct schoolwide academic assessments/evaluations of student abilities and needs and serves as a member of/chair IEP meetings Collect and analyze student performance data to determine the extent to which student IEP goals and objectives are being metAssist students with all goals as stated in their Individualized Education PlansAssist support and work in collaboration with the school psychologist district BCBA administration and all other related service providers in the development implementation and revision of student behavior plansImplement Behavioral and Functional Assessments for studentsInstruct and direct assigned educational assistant(s) to maximize delivery of instructional services behavior management and data collection techniquesDevelop personal relationships with the students parents or guardians and work to establish with them an understanding and cooperative relationship based on the students individual interpersonal skills to consult effectively with educational assistants teachers administration and parentsMaintain the integrity of confidential information regarding studentsUnderstanding and familiarity with the Special Education process and regulationsCreates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education instructional goals and baseline testing to determine educational needs and develop a strategic plan to address weaknesses. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just and all other duties assigned by Building Administrator and/or Director of Student Support Services and Coordinator of Special Education.
