About the Role
An opportunity currently exists for a Grade 3 physiotherapist to join the physiotherapy department. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing high quality physiotherapy services to patients in the Emergency Department as a Primary Contact Physiotherapist. This position is located at the Fitzroy campus of St Vincents Hospital Melbourne.
You will be involved in prioritizing assessing and managing emergency patients presenting to the ED with soft tissue injuries fractures and other musculoskeletal presentations. The role will work closely with emergency staff and will involve consultation with other physiotherapists in the ED. Proven leadership excellent communication skills and fostering of relationships with the multidisciplinary team is essential.
The position also involves taking a leadership role within the department and in the musculoskeletal outpatient team as well as being responsible for quality activities and research projects within the musculoskeletal team. The role is responsible for supervision of junior staff and Allied Health Assistants and other duties as directed/delegated.

Must have or be currently eligible for National Physiotherapist Registration.
Classifications for this position will range from VB7 VC1 ($104135.30 - $118981.20 per annum pro rata for part time.
Duties include
Provide assessment and clinical management to patients as a primary contact physiotherapist in the Emergency Department (managing a wide range of conditions in particular soft tissue injuries spinal and peripheral joint)
Provide leadership and support to the co-ordination of the musculoskeletal physiotherapy team
Supervision and support to junior staff
Involvement in multidisciplinary meetings and planning
Lead research and/or quality improvement activities in the musculoskeletal team
Represent physiotherapy on committees both internal and external as appropriate
Support the advanced scope physiotherapy leader in coordination of service delivery
Your contribution
Minimum seven years of post-graduate experience
Post-graduate qualification in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
Broad experience in and knowledge of physiotherapy management in a musculoskeletal outpatient setting
Demonstrated leadership skills and extensive experience in the supervision and professional development of physiotherapists students and support staff.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is located at the Fitzroy Campus of St Vincents Hospital Melbourne particularly the physiotherapy department musculoskeletal outpatient and emergency departments. The musculoskeletal outpatient department cares for a diverse range of musculoskeletal ambulatory patients.
4. POSITION PURPOSE
Accountable to the physiotherapy manager and the musculoskeletal & advanced practice grade 4 team leaders this grade 3 position is responsible for fostering clinical excellence in the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service at St Vincents. They will manage an individual caseload within advanced scope physiotherapy clinics at SVHM as well as providing a primary contact physiotherapy service in the Emergency Department. The position involves taking a leadership role within the department and musculoskeletal team being responsible for quality activities and research projects and other duties as directed / delegated.
5. POSITION DUTIES
The delivery of the highest standard of physiotherapy services to the patients of the Musculoskeletal physiotherapy service at Fitzroy as directed:
Provide excellent assessment and clinical management to patients referred for musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
Promote the principles of evidence based practice in the management of patients treated by Musculoskeletal team.

Work within scope of practice operational guidelines and own knowledge and skill level in any advanced scope clinic and identify when circumstances require escalation of care consultations and referral on for appropriate medical review
To ensure compliance with the learning competency and credentialing frameworks and clinical standards as required for Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
Initiate projects and research promoting improved work practices
Ensure implementation of departmental and SVHM policies and procedures
Supervision of the clinical education program for undergraduate and postgraduate students if appropriate
Active participation in professional ongoing education and review of current literature
Participate in the Performance Development Program including participation in all relevant physiotherapy department general and musculoskeletal in-service programs
Ensure equipment used is monitored and properly maintained
Maintain departmental and program statistics
Appropriate documentation in medical record consistent with SVHM documentation policy
Consult with and provide advice to relevant medical and other staff where necessary to formulate and carry out individual treatment regimens
Participate in Departmental and Organisational meetings and other meetings as required
Provide support to Team Leaders (Musculoskeletal & Advanced Practice) and be an active member of the senior Musculoskeletal team
Actively participate in mentorship and supervision of staff as required and ensure effective and efficient human resource management occurs

8. SELECTION CRITERIA
8.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education:
Physiotherapy Degree
Postgraduate qualification/s in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
AHPRA Registration
Knowledge & Experience:
7 years post graduate experience in and knowledge of physiotherapy management in an acute health care setting
Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement
Broad physiotherapy experience
Recent experience in clinical teaching of physiotherapy students
Recent experience in the supervision of staff
