Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Community Ministries Worker C assists in the organization and distribution of food bank donations.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range ofjob duties characteristic or typical of the job class:

  • Consistently demonstrates empathy and concern for clients/families
  • Provides emergency food hampers to clients as directed by counsellors/caseworkers or supervisor
  • May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records as directed
  • Assists in the organization maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank.
  • Process incoming food donations.
  • Helps in the distribution of food/hampers during open operating hours.
  • Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy
  • Performs other duties as assigned

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

The successful job applicant will have completed Public School.

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

SPECIAL LICENSES DIPLOMAS CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful applicant will hold/have:

  • WHMIS Training
  • Forklift Operator Certification
  • * *See Precautionary Measures* *
  • applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

Up to three (3) months of prior related experience including experience working with multibarriered persons.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of loading/unloading trucks handing out hampers receiving/sorting out donated or purchased goods and occasional computer work.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to clients/volunteers) and attention to occasional computer work.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:

The incumbents responsibility for Financial Resources:

The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend disburse or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget

RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:

The incumbents responsibility for Human Resources:

The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees/volunteers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The incumbents work environment is typically in a community ministries office at a food bank or in a warehouse.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Dirt/Dust/Temperature variations in a warehouse environment
  • Cramped working station
  • Work-related stress
  • Dealing with angry and abusive people

The incumbent may have little to no travel required.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm injury or illness due to:

  • Physical attacks by others (and verbal)
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Moving objects
  • Sharp objects
  • Risk of back strain

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Foodsafe training
  • Take Protective Barriers
  • WHMIS Training
  • Adequately maintain operational equipment

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
